Waterproof delivery equipment new starter

Post by Josephineyy »

Hello everyone,

I’m relatively new to Royal Mail and am really struggling to keep my mail dry while out on delivery.
I’ve tried the bundle sizes and various holding positions, without success.
And a google search this evening for “Royal Mail wet post” has led me to a page from RM’s website and I quote

“ We provide a range of water-proof delivery equipment to help protect your mail.“

It got me thinking, having already asked management for anything that may assist me on delivery.
Is anything provided by Royal Mail truely waterproof, or are my local managers holding out on me?

We're meant to have bag liners that are water proof. But I've never been given one.
It's such a tough one when on delivery there is little you can do. Keep bundles small is about as good as it gets
When walking from house to house I put my bundle under my bags flap but that only works up until the point that's its sopping wet
Someone I work with puts his pda in a sandwich bag which keeps his pda working. Which I laughed at but if it works, it works!

Hi Tinoblade,
Thanks for the reply, pdas aren’t waterproof?
The list gets longer.
Can you think of anything that could be included in the quote “ waterproof delivery equipment?”

Why would you spend £20 of your own money to save the mail from getting wet?
If RM want dry mail they can pay for the equipment, they obviously prioritise saving the money.

As for the plastic bag liners, they don't help at all because rainwater eventually gets into them when you open the bag and pools at the bottom of the liner soaking the mail anyway.

They are, and still function in wet weather. But they're a nuisance when the PDA screens are covered with raindrops while the customer is trying to sign their name. :nervous

Looks like it's good enough for the job. I prefer using an A3 size apology bag or any other similar clear plastic bag from our callers office.

They're not only a nuisance - they become a brick that generates random characters, freezes, 'backs out' of outdoor mode so you lose the
scan that you've just done or just become a lead weight in your pocket.

Make smaller bundles when it’s due to be bad. Don’t do what my colleague did in the rain last week and put an A4 sized special (envelope) at the bottom of the bundle, there was nothing left of the poor blokes mortgage documents when he got them.
