Pay dropping from 38hr to 35
Hi, been with RM 15 years. Considering dropping from 38 hr to 35 for stress reasons and because a round I want is available. All I would like to know is what my net weekly payment would be If I switched. The only difference I can see on my wage slip might be that I pay POAL for a 6th weeks holiday. Bat that surely RRIS , delivery supplements and pension would be the same ? I have asked my DOM , my union rep, people actually on 35 hr contracts and today I rang HR services and got a figure that is too low to be correct. Nobody can seem to clarify an average . There is no overtime involved at all. If people want to switch hrs how the hell do we find out without just guessing and then realise we’ve F’d up? Appreciate any help.

At a guess you would lose about £30 a week.

Basic pay for 35 hours contract is £406.72, delivery supplement is £23.63, £430.35 in total.
Deduct from the total what you pay for your extra 6th holiday week and you`ll have your answer.
Pension pay will be 6% or more from you (plud 10% from RM), depending if you are paying additional voluntary payments or not.

It would be your hourly rate x 3 minus 20% Tax and minus 12% NI
So if you are on say £11 an hour you would lose £33 minus £6.60 minus £3.96, so Total Loss would be £33 -£10.56 = £22.44.
May even be a little less than this taking in to account your pension contribution would decrease.

Done a quick calculation and reckon your take home pay will reduce by approx £26 a week. Your pension contribution will reduce as your pension contribution pay will. I assume your POAL deduction will stay the same but might be wrong here. If I'm wrong re POAL the final figure for take home should still be in region on £26 though.
I'm have no experience of payroll or accountancy though.

Current basic pay of £441.58÷38hrs =£11.62 per hour. Dropping to 35 hours will be 35x£11.62=£406.70 basic. £34.88 per week worse off before tax but your tax etc will also be less then what you pay now. Surely you will still get the RRIS payment although slightly less then on a 38 hour contract.

Thanks to all who’ve replied here. You’ve been more help than my DOM and HR. Cheers .
