PDA Actuals - how do they track us?

Post by Cloudwatcher »

Do the managers actually track our speed etc. by using our PDA's? Can they see who walks the fastest/slowest in our office? Who is the quickest and slowest to finish various walks? Etc. etc.

Just curious..........

Yes they can track you , not sure they can compare 1 postie to another by the tracking app.

maybe not officially but it would be pretty easy to compare the data if they wanted to do it.

I suppose if they can track us, then they can (unofficially as the other person said) see who walks faster and who walks slower, who takes longer to stop etc.

Pda will show how long on average it takes to do each loop. If the PDA it sitting stationary for any more than a minute it will show up as a yellow dot. The yellow dot doesn't mean much as it could mean you were trying to deliver a parcel or needing the loo.

The PDAs will work both in our favour as well as RM's. Any dispute in overtime all you have to do is ask the dom for the pda actuals and it will show that all minutes have been worked.

have you seen the new white dot on the PDA's?
look for a new icon which is a white solid dot, this I believe is a proper tracking service which RM will use to check where you are 24/7.
it turned up on our PDA's on Monday.

The Pda's track the route you take and the overall duration of the route, it picks up stops longer than 1 minute. The Pda does not measure walking or driving speeds. Everybody is different within royal mail so nobody can be compared or expected to walk as fast as others etc...

If royal.mail.get their outdoor performance standards you soon will be! Just like Amazon measure how fast people work in their warehouses, I'm sure their are lots of different people working in them but there will be a standard they are measured against. It's coming to us soon if the cwu don't win this fight

On the top left of the screen in the notifications area. If you drag the top of the screen down you can see what it is, and what it says it does.

"Provides location data for Outdoor...." or something like that.

Unfortunately in our unit like many others we have a lot of elder posties who struggle everyday with knee, feet, leg back problems that are the trade off for putting in 20,30 even 40+ years service who would never be able to attain performance levels that may come into play. With that scenario in mind maybe the union should start trying to get these conditions seen as industrial injuries and fight for compensation for these people as they could well end up on the scrap heap as a reward for their hard work and loyalty to RM for so many years.

I don't know if they can pinpoint exactly where we are in realtime via our PDAs because we are a constantly moving target  Their computer systems do show up an pattern of our walking route which they seem to find it easier to analyse the day after. It wouldn't take a genius to then work out a posties walking speed and the time taken at rest (via the yellow dot which gets bigger the longer you're stationary).

But what do you do with all this data?? Query why you spent 20 minutes on the loo or 10 minutes explaining something to a customer on the street? I know some who prefer to spend their 20 minutes break in the van instead of in the office.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The DOM is not meant to do it but they can track your, or rather the location of the PDA, in real time if they want or needed to. Our previous DOM did it once when they needed to find me as I don't own or have a mobile phone.
I hadn't noticed that white dot thing on the notifications but those things are always getting in my way on the screen and I keep swiping them out of the way.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

It's on ours as well so it's probably been rolled out to all PDAs no matter what type of office
