Relocation
I'm thinking of moving down south from London area, is there a procedure Royal Mail employs to relocate staff to different office because of the move or you are basically on your own and have to find the vacancy first by yourself? From what I've seen pretty much everywhere they rely on part timers, in our office every time full-timer leaves, part-timer comes in (if we are lucky enough). I'm on full-time contract, 12 years with RM. Anyone can speak from recent experience?

Getting a full time contract on transfer will be difficult from my experiance. As you point out, they're just not replacing full timers now like for like. Part timers are brought in to save on hours.

Relocation
There needs to be a vacancy for the office you want to move to. Sadly if this is only a part time vacancy then you will have to drop to part time in order to move. Your best bet is to find out the numbers for the offices nearest to you and give the DOM a ring.scarface wrote:I'm thinking of moving down south from London area, is there a procedure Royal Mail employs to relocate staff to different office because of the move or you are basically on your own and have to find the vacancy first by yourself? You would almost certainly have to drop some hours but you could get made back up to full time, possibly, when the office you move to has a repick as you've got 12 years in.

Try to contact the office/s you want to go to yourself 1st, even go down to each one personally if possible.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
