If it did come to VR’s what would Royal Mail look at?
Age?
Service Time?
Seniority ?

That might have been the case in the past but what is there to say that is guaranteed to be the case now?

It might well prove most cost effective to get rid of the most senior staff with all their various money for nothing grandfather payments, but equally, management might decide it's most cost effective to give priority to the ones who will get little or no redundancy payout?

Surely it's entirely up to management to decide who goes and on what terms, given that most other previous agreements now appear to null and void?

Non drivers would be high up the list I should imagine irrespective of seniority......can't deliver large volumes of over sized packets with an HCT.

I don't understand why people without a driving licence are taken on still by RM in some offices. Our DO wouldn't take on new staff if they were not able to drive.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Isn't the big plan for us to lose large stuff though?

And I'm pretty sure any VR will solely be based on seniority.

Drivers will be needed on the LAT side of things. DOs will be looking at folk that can walk for longer periods surely if the duties are getting longer. Plus most non drivers in my office have 10 to 25 years under their belt. Would cost a fortune if it's the same elsewhere.

I've done 30+years and I get £4 a week 'grandfather rights' for ex driving duty payment.
I wonder how much more some people are getting?

It would work out cheaper in the long term for Royal Mail to get rid of full time senior people. The short term cost would be expensive but over the long term the savings would be greater. Since when has Royal Mail wanted anything other than short term savings though

In my office there are 4 or 5 senior full time guys dying to take VR. Again I don't know about other offices but if it's the same throughout the country then it would be a no brainer I reckon. But then again it's another chance for RM to piss off the workforce so you never know.

So seniority in terms of this means they can opt to take it before anyone else?

Are either of you taking your pension as I'm sure this affects the amount that is paid in redundancy pay?

Everyone is getting well ahead of themselves anyway as not one redundancy has been announced yet :Very Happy
