Is it possible to change our delivery office manager??

Post by Amy85 »

So I started Royal Mail 6 months ago and I think our office manager started at our office just a couple of months before I arrived but he makes everyone miserable.

He get complaints from every office he goes to cover.
He is the worst person at talking to people. What I mean by that is he's so blunt, patronising, not afraid to swear and argue with the posties.
He seems to have a grudge on a select few of people and picks on them for little things constantly.
We had a cover manager last week and he was a dream compared to our regular manager.

I only have a couple of people who I'm close to at the office but they are both at the point where they want to leave and go to other offices all because of the manager.
The only person who genuinely gets on well with him is our Union Rep!

Please tell me there's a way to get this guy out. He's actually moving and he's going to be an hour away but apparently he still wants to travel to our office. :arrrghhh

You could hold a gate meeting, or walk out, seen it done and it does work. Get in touch with the union area rep

Does Royal Mail not have a system to complain about their managers? I feel like this isn't a drastic enough situation for the CWU.

We had a walk out due to a similar situation with a dom a few years back. We are a easy going non militant office by the way. The offending arrogant clown was banished to a different area hopefully never to be seen again .
Last year he then reappears as the delivery area manager. Luckily he very rarely shows his face but as you can imagine gets completely ignored if he does.
You couldn't make it up as they say !.

You could easily be describing our manager. The way our DOM speaks to me/us infuriates me. Constant Snide, sarcastic remarks which he can only make because he can hide behind the power dynamic he holds over us. The Union rep seems totally il prepared or not willing to act. The weasel wouldn't f***ing dare speak to a non postie the way he speaks to us as he'd end up with the s**t kicked out of him. Makes my blood boil.

When I worked for Royal Mail, the last manager was a complete knob head! His attitude to all was s**t but tripped himself up as a closet racist! Keep your ear to the ground. This moron will slip up one day and should be dealt with accordingly!

Sounds similar to our manager, he is a complete Tossa never speak anyone in the morning never says hi how are you getting on any problems couldn’t care less about you doesn’t speak to anyone except two favourites goes around slamming trays on some people benches trivial things like checking that you have I’d card ,

in uniform et cetera patronising and sarcastic and sexist heard him say some sexust things before,he also made a racist remark one day and I confronted him on it and he basically denied all knowledge of saying it! It seems to me they will give managers job to anyone who will do it,and no Matter what they do they just keep them

A DOM is judged not on how popular with staff they are; they are judged on results. Things like....customer complaints, staff sickness, accidents on delivery, missed tracked scans, not getting the mail delivered. So if your DOM appears to be an obnoxious twat that pulls you up over the slightest, trivial thing then you can be sure the purpose is to give you the fear off losing your job, rather than that of theirs.

Its funny how I see our DOM suddenly spring into action and look more active when the Area boss is in town and whilst you could voice your concerns higher up the food chain, you should be aware that they are also anxiously looking over their shoulder too. Take Ricky MacCaulay for instance, he's not a leader but a new puppet for Rico.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I would not call him a Muppet or a leader just disastrous yet someone should be sacrificed and it will not be the CEO!
