Road closure

What’s the procedure when delivering mail. Should we drive past the road closed sign and deliver as far as we can get? Would RM say you shouldn’t have been driving/walking on that road if you had an accident on it? I got grief from a manager today after I brought back mail for a couple of houses beyond a road closed sign with bollards across the road. Marked it up as inaccessible. They said I should’ve just walked it but surely that would be a health and safety risk?

You were right. What if it was closed for a gas leak? Or falling rocks from a cliff? Or a Police incident? Or any number of safety related incidents?

I don't think we should be second guessing people who probably have a good reason to close a road. And if you had walked it and had an accident they would have bollocked you for doing it.

Generally most would drive until the road is actually blocked and you cannot go any further. There is currently a road closed on my walk but the water board workmen moved the blockade partially so they could get their vans through. Cars and small vans can get through past the hole they have dug but lorries & tractors would not be able to get past therefore the road closed signs are still in place on the road.

Rural delivery. No pavement, single track lane. Construction workers with big machinery moving about so deemed it unsafe to deliver. The person who is on that round tomorrow wasn’t too happy about it, called me a jobsworth for following h&s lol, they can risk their life to deliver a few letters if they want, I’m sure Rico would turn up at their funeral!

The road closed sign would be enough for me and endorse the affected mail accordingly day time etc, tell whoever is in charge when you get back,if you’re lucky to see anyone that is,and if there are any tracked or specials that fail, watch your manager implode due to said failure! and of course the garbage from there mouth as to what you should have done etc etc

If its closed take photos of the road and contact your line manager while out on delivery to inform him/her that you cannot deliver as it's not accessible. At the end of the day it's not your fault and it happens from time to time roadworks. Bring the mail back and re-try next day if poss.
