As we await the result of national ballot we have all been given reasons to vote yes and equally so to cast a no vote.

Whatever way we vote the pay and modernisation agreement will mean changes to some of our working practices.

We are ‘outraged’ at being asked to be flexible! How dare Royal Mail ask us for 30minutes flexibility??

Well let’s have a bit of honesty shall we! Royal Mail can ask for the 30 minutes because we have all given them the chance to.

How many of us on delivery take our cars?? Time wise this must save Royal Mail at least an hour a day per duty. On top of this every 4/5 people who take their car enable Royal Mail to remove a driving duty. This duty saves them £20,000 plus at least another £10,000 for the vehicle they can do without!

How many of you come in up to an hour (sometimes more) before the start of your duty? You are upset at Royal Mail asking for you so give them 30 minutes yet EVERYDAY some of you GIVE them hours of your own time.

The habit of missing meal reliefs is yet another target for Royal Mail. When you miss your break and finish 40 minutes earlier you say Royal Mail should recognise this. ALL THEY SEE IS YOU FINISHING 40 MINUTES EARLIER AND WILL FILL THAT WITH WORK!

Some people think the doing your job properly campaign is just about delivery staff. This could not be further from the truth.

In Mail Centres and RDCs across the UK malpractices are rife. Pulling two yorks, filling overweight bags, working past finish times, cutting corners!

You may think this is for your benefit but the reality is that you are helping Royal Mail to cut jobs and making a rod for your own back!

Nobody has said that the agreement that we will vote on is perfect but if we are all going to challenge management going forward then we must first get our own house in order.

When your representatives are faced with proposals for cuts the counter argument of members using cars, missing breaks, coming in early and cutting corners hold no weight.

It is time to put up or shut up. Royal Mails operational strategies are based on us all continuing to offer our goodwill to them. IF WE ARE SERIOUS ABOUT FIGHTING BACK THEN WE MUST ALL STEP UP AND PUT OUR LONG TERM JOB SECURITY AHEAD OF SHORT TERM CONVIENCE.

REMEMBER WE CANNOT FIGHT 30 MINUTES FLEXIBILITY WHILST WE GIVE THEM HOURS OF FREE LABOUR EVERYDAY.

Yep give them 30 seconds of your time not much i know but remember the old saying give them an inch and they will take a mile!.

Strange thing is if they had said that the 30 minutes would always be voluntary and would definitely be reimbursed within the same pay period or would activate an allowance, bonus or rate of overtime most posties would do it with no argument. Because they are trying to force it in without any regard for personal circumstances we quite rightly are fighting it.

Royal Mail as usual.

Now I am going to say something quite shocking, remove the flexibility/annual hours/monthly pay or bring in more protection and safeguards for them and the deal in of its self is not to bad. Its all the extras that make it such a bad deal.

The biggest problem with this agreement is it is not an agreement it is open ended no fixed plan across the country just local deal's in each and every office pressure on the union offical's in every office to cave in to royalmail's master plan! ie no union representation in the workplace!

Yep i agree with the start of this thread. We must look at ourselves and our practices. However this agreement sucks big time. UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL. This agreement full of "local negotiations" divides us the work force & the union. Our own union is dividing its own membership.
So in time we will fall. All local agreements must become more centralised and so return to nationalised bargaining and a stronger union. But as the the thread points out we must all as individuals look at our working practices and question our work mates too. 8hrs a day must be filled with the duty allocated to you nothing less!!!!!!!!

If we do not stand together for what is the point of a union!.A union is a cause worker's fall behind to gain not for the few but the many!. for if we do not stand as one we are but many to be picked off at random!. for who will be next the small office in the south east or the big office in the west midlands or a hub here or there!. for if we do not stand together we do not stand any chance at all for that is the point of a union!.

Time for somebody to stop moaning from the sidelines, step up and do something like put in for rep.

Do the job yourself if your not happy with those who are currently reps in your patch!

Why do you do longs and shorts, we dont we still work 8 hours a day across the week, thats why we take mailsort ona saturday now becuase they say we are not SDD compliant
