new postal union
according to the cwu website we are part of a 250,000 membership. i believe only 130,000 are actually postal staff, opg,s ect. if you look on the cwu website you will find topics that have no relevence whatsoever to processing and deliveries. this union is getting bigger, and as it does, it gets further away from the main reason of it,s role, looking after our interests as a group. i hope in the near future we can break away and reform as a dedicated union to our roles only, with a new leadership void of " holier than thou" attitudes of the likes of HAYES ect. i am open to any remarks on this subject contradicting me or otherwise, but next time you receive the voice, have a read of HAYES column, it USUALLY consists of some political situation in far off countries. don,t mistake my intentions, there is a time and place for global consideration, but cwu pages are not that place. i would like my union back please.

Re: new postal union
You're absolutely right. I believe they are actively recruiting agency staff and during the strike had to write to them asking them not to go in to work at RM premises - so no conflict of interest there then.davidessex wrote:according to the cwu website we are part of a 250,000 membership. i believe only 130,000 are actually postal staff, opg,s ect. if you look on the cwu website you will find topics that have no relevence whatsoever to processing and deliveries. this union is getting bigger, and as it does, it gets further away from the main reason of it,s role, looking after our interests as a group. i hope in the near future we can break away and reform as a dedicated union to our roles only, with a new leadership void of " holier than thou" attitudes of the likes of HAYES ect. i am open to any remarks on this subject contradicting me or otherwise, but next time you receive the voice, have a read of HAYES column, it USUALLY consists of some political situation in far off countries. don,t mistake my intentions, there is a time and place for global consideration, but cwu pages are not that place. i would like my union back please.

You`re absolutely right it`s getting bigger no doubt to trying to rake in the much needed cash wherever possible.davidessex wrote:according to the cwu website we are part of a 250,000 membership. i believe only 130,000 are actually postal staff, opg,s ect. if you look on the cwu website you will find topics that have no relevence whatsoever to processing and deliveries. this union is getting bigger, and as it does, it gets further away from the main reason of it,s role, looking after our interests as a group. i hope in the near future we can break away and reform as a dedicated union to our roles only, with a new leadership void of " holier than thou" attitudes of the likes of HAYES ect. i am open to any remarks on this subject contradicting me or otherwise, but next time you receive the voice, have a read of HAYES column, it USUALLY consists of some political situation in far off countries. don,t mistake my intentions, there is a time and place for global consideration, but cwu pages are not that place. i would like my union back please.
I didn`t join the union to finance schemes, political or otherwise, in far off countries.
I joined to ensure us members had a voice and to protect me and my fellow colleagues from wrong doing by incompetent and/or ruthless managers and to protect our working conditions, pay bargaining, etc.

ive left the cwu when the results of the deal came out im not paying 2.70 a week to support something that comes out with as much rubbish as they did i realise that the more members that leave the weaker the cwu becomes but i cant justify nearly £3 a week to an organisation that takes me for granted !
if you look at the near 90 % support at the recent strikes , i stood on the picket line and begged a few stragglers not to go in (which they didnt )i kept saying support your union and just look what they are trying to do to us !
the cwu are finished guys royal mail are doing practically what they want now and they will do in the future do yourselves a favour get out from the cwu and keep your £3 a week in your own pocket and not the cwu
if you all stick together like liverpool did recently thats the only way to beat royal mail not by wasting your hard earned cash on the cwu

This is a view I have been forcing to the back of my mind for sometime now since the PEC recommended that we accept this crock of sh*te of a deal. But if the CWU carry on as they are it is one that I will eventually have to faceve left the cwu when the results of the deal came out im not paying 2.70 a week to support something that comes out with as much rubbish as they did i realise that the more members that leave the weaker the cwu becomes but i cant justify nearly £3 a week to an organisation that takes me for granted !

A. shrug your shoulders and find alternative accomodation
B. Do everything in your power to get the buggers out
OK you left the door open but it does not make it right.

I agree with your sentiments and I will remain a member whilst this farce is played out. But unless there are positive changes at the top and a real will to realign the top brass with the grass root membership I can't see the point of staying a member. I would see it, as similar to paying the labour party to kick me in the balls.

Good post Belial, why leave the unoin, the fight isn't over, we are just on a ceasefire till the ballot result comes through and we find out where we stand. Even then the struggle to defend our jobs and fight privatisation will continue. ITs right to be cynical about the CWU leaders' motives for recruiting in other companies - they need to keep the subs up as thousands of Royal Mail postie's jobs are lost, so they can keep theirs. but by unionising these companies we can try to coordinate strikes in the future and fight to merge them into a single state-owned company.

i think some people are missing the point i am making. nobody is talking of leaving the union. what i said was, there are 250,000 members of cwu, but only 130,000 postal members. the union is bigger than just a postal workers union. we should be a seperate union. read my opening comments on this subject again please, or start your own topic on actually leaving the union.

Other unions are merging so as to become stronger, more effctive etc (Amicus and T&G)
Why do you feel going the other way will benefit us?
Trade union history is filled to the brim with mergers is it not?
Would we lose Alvescot lodge? My understanding and correct me if im wrong is that it came from the NCU.
Would a demerger benefit our friends in telecoms?

sorry Dave missed that! Its true that bigger general unions are weaker, the leaders don't just represent you, so for instance whenthe Liverpool dockers went on strike the T&G wouldn't call out other sections, saying it couldn't do that for just one group, and then tried to wind up the strike saying they couldn't justfiy the expense of it, they had other workers to think of too in the union from restaurant workers to oil workers to car plant workers etc. industrial unions like ours rest on one group of workers alone and so tend to be harder more militant etc.
that said telecomms and postal workers all come under the communications industry and the whole thing TNT BT O2 etc should be nationalised together, under workers and consumers control with no compensation to thebosses! They made a mint out of privatisation (or are doing so like TNT). So there is an argument for sticking together in this case.
