What do you mean 'bit of mail' ?

There will always be mail.

ADDRESSED JUNK MAIL: People are signed up to receive junk mail, they are too lazy to cancel, people then move house and this junk mail carries on being sent out. Thousands of people are probably signing up to receive junk mail on a daily basis.

MAGAZINES: Magazines aren't going to stop.

CELEBRATORY CARDS: Birthday, xmas, wedding, christening etc etc etc aren't going to stop.

BANK RELATED DOCUMENTS: Are not going to stop, maybe bank statements will eventually drop right down, but people still need certain documents from their banks.

DVLA: Fines.

SMALL LETTER SIZED PARCELS: Typically from China with some small item inside.

MISCELLANEOUS: Things sent by School, college, university, Council, waterworks, roadworks, doctors, dentist.... etc etc etc.

What other company would have their employees delivering something as worthless and irritating as pizza leaflets at the same time as having to deliver valuable, important and time sensitive items including even cash (foreign currency specials) worth many hundreds, possibly thousands of pounds?

Yeah I've said the same myself, they don't seem to have any idea what to excel at, we had 7 d2ds last week plus election material turning up every day, meaning in our office only RM paid 100's of hours worth of wages on stuff that practically no one wants whilst in the meantime you could hardly get through the door for Yorks full of the parcels that rm's receiving customers actually want !

It's only 300 offices involved, it's only larger packets, and it's only 'proposed'.

Also, Royal Mail state they are going to 'grow' smaller packets, so that would make up for losing larger packets in the offices involved.

It would mean an increase in business (if true and if it goes to plan) for other offices. A good thing if it's managed correctly (ie more hours better contracts, more duties).

Tracked larger than a show box do you mean? Or all tracked?

Where did you get this info?

This might be worth a wee look, especially page 96 where it shows expected volumes for years 2023-24.

Interesting.

Today: 60,000 routes. Zero dedicated parcel routes.
4/5 years time 50,000 routes plus 7,000 dedicated parcel routes. So 10,000 routes disappear despite 'growing' the small parcel business, and 7,000 are introduced going over the same ground.

Also:
Royal Mail and our brands are built on our people
Management team to execute

Who decides who the manager will execute ?! Surely managers should be executed?

According to that document, if I'm reading it right, 60% of small/untracked parcels will go to DO, ALONG WITH 25% of small tracked parcels. This leaves 15% larger and LAT parcels to go to Hubs.

Or is this all pie in the sky the same as everything else we hear?

All the larger parcels and all Tracked will go to one of the 3 parcel hubs. The smaller Tracked will effectively go straight to DOs. The larger non-Tracked, large Tracked and the LAT stuff will goto the LAT hubs. I don't think it'll be too long before they look at the smaller Tracked going through the LAT hubs as well

We in MCs effectively near enough loose all Tracked traffic.

I can see RM pressing for every last parcel that's not an SD having a 2D barcode on it at some point. They could have software dynamically generate walks each day based on what's coming in.

That would take some very good and very expensive programs to do that every day for all the offices in the country based on data gathered a matter of hours earlier! Reading the amount of working be lost in mail centres I think a lot of them will be for the chop or at least an awful lot of jobs

Which will probably also mean later starts for many DOs as the mail for them will have to come from further away and the remaining MCs and MPUs will each have more sequencing batches. With the mention of 40 parcel sorting machines, that's not too far off at least 1 per remaining MC
