Outlook : Short-term outlook for Royal Mail is challenging

As part of today’s half year results for 2019-20, we said the outlook, excluding elections, for letters business in the UK is challenging:

Economy and business uncertainty having an impact on UK business, especially letters. Outlook, excluding elections, is challenging.

Because of the economic outlook, expect addressed letter volume declines to be 7-9%, excluding elections, in 2019-20.

Overall, our UK business could possibly be break even or loss-making in 2020-21

Case for change : There is a clear and pressing need for change

Case for change : There is a clear and pressing need for change

In our half year financial results, announced today, we said that our transformation is behind schedule. This is likely to impact our rate of productivity improvement.

The challenging financial outlook for Royal Mail in the UK means that – more than ever before – we must make the changes we need. We need to accelerate the changes to ensure a successful UK business.

We want to change, working with our unions, but we can only do this through an affordable resolution.

We have written this morning to CWU asking for talks without preconditions.

They won't have to worry when the new Government nationalises Royal Mail. They might have their 'wages' slashed though, that will concern them.

Simple way to stop the decline in profits is as we all know to get rid of all arseholes at the top of the company. Just think how much their combined salaries, expenses, bonuses and champagne lunches comes to. Will be a phenomenal amount and think how many letters you have to deliver just to cover those costs before any over overheads. People at the top of any company must be the thickest pigshit cnuts ever if they can’t grasp those facts. Then they have the nerve to blame the people at the bottom on the lowest wage in the business for all the company’s wows. What a bunch of cockheads!!!!

We might have our wages slashed too. If we're loss making, maybe the British tax payer won't like proping up royal mail when there are so many other courier firms to chose from. Posties who think a Corbyn govt (I shudder as I write that), would be better off, massive pay rises, a leisurely stroll round reduced call duties chatting to old folk and returning an hr early to be told by your manager, you've done well son, get yerself off home, with a cheery pat on the back......would be in for a big shock. This mega efficiency drive didn't start with privatisation.
Wonder how much jez would be willing to pay the new CEO? He obviously thinks 6million is too much to head up a company with 140000 workers. Wonder, as he's a footy fan, if he thinks Jose is worth more than double that ,to manage a football team? Like to ask him that one.

Doesn't look good when they announce that UK operations next yr may not brake even......just after giving junior and middle management a bonus and wage rise. That does really stink. I've always said, royal mail is now a broken model. Margins on packets are tight to compete, we don't make owt on delivering letters, rather than Corbyn threatening to re nationalize us, he should be saying, we'll take off your shackles and let you compete on a level playing field see how you go with that. If I were Back, I'd be thinking, give all the packets to an enlarged parcel force and let what's left with letters go to Jezz if he wants it, it makes no profit.

And why is that then because the UK government of the time predisposed it to do so ie tie RM's hands behind it's back it is not because we are all useless it is because of regulation and the government of the time jumping the gun sometimes people are born stupid in your a case of indoctrination. Privatisation of our education and all services has lead to the predisposition that capitalism is the be all and end all of how to make a nations services better it is not it only helps the rich get richer at the expense of the service!

Yes it is a strange phenomenon that when our health service hospitals were run by Matrons and a Senior Consultant there was no problems with waiting lists, cancelled operations, cancelled appointments or risk of catching other diseases.
As soon as market forces/capitalism was introduced we see a rapid reduction in service quality, reduction in cleanliness, as well as the other problems mentioned above. Add to that the addition of Accountants, Human Resources, Non clinical management and all manner of lower management jobs , all of which are the reason why the NHS has become a donosaur in terms of cost to the tax payer. Meanwhile those at the sharp end of the business, nurses, Junior Doctors, Porters, Cleaners, Kitchen Staff etc have all seen their work increase whilst their wages have decreased in real terms during Tory austerity.

Capitalism has been transposed in to Royal Mail where once upon a time there was a Postmaster General who had probably worked his way up from the workshop floor and new what was required to make the process work efficiently. Royal Mail is now that same dinosaur with a Chief Executive paid Millions per year but who has no idea how to make this business work efficiently. He is surrounded by layers of senior managers who again have no shop floor experience and there only job is to download orders to lower management who are versed in the tactics of bullying and treating individuals who want to work to their contracted hours differently to those who work overtime, and are not seen by the shop floor to make a difference to the smooth running of the work.
No public entity, private company or any form of business can operate efficiently, fairly, legitimately and in the end profitably if there is continuous mis management, overworking and bullying of staff and where there is a massive difference in pay of those who are creating the problem against those who are creating the income.

Capitalism can only work where everyone who works in that business is treated with dignity and respect, with a fair workload and receives a fair reward from the profits made. Unfortunately we are a from the Animal race and we all know that the Darwin theory of Survival of the Fittest will always hold sway. Humanity is only apparent in a minority of our species. For this reason a socialist society must be a preferred alternative to a capatalist society
