Hard manual labour - 'when I'm sixty-four'

A poll of your honest opinion:

Hands up if you think you will be physically capable of hard manual labour when you are 64?

Bear in mind that it will be, as RM intend, harder work than what you do today.
All rounds will be more equal than today I would assume, so no lighter ones for long-timers.
Longer working weeks during heavy periods.
No cutting off but working to finish the round regardless of number of bags.

Try 54 at this rate.... Im 37 coming up and my back is knackered and ankles gone... Apart from my brain having a sabatical... Another 28 years and i will go POSTAL on a screw...

ive done 36 years and am fuc-ed, when i started it was 1bag except at xmas now its 6heavy ones roll on retirement at 60 sorry 65 if the gruesome twosome have their way

i am in my forties and i am absolutely knackered! my backs f****d,knees,ankles both creak, and my hands go numb for long periods of time (at night) apart from this i am in fair nick for my age!!! retire at 65, at this rate i won't make 50!!!!!

I am between the ages of 40 to 50, due to all the lifting and carrying of mail my back and my knees are killing me, there is no way that I will be able to continue like this until the age of 64. This is what gets my really mad when AL and AC say that we are underworked and overpaid. I would love them to do a delivery for a month or work in a mail centre doing DSA all day.

sounds like you got carpel tunnel syndrome, i had an op on one of my hands in March, I think its down to carrying bundles of letters and RSI

Dont worry about working longer lads/lasses. 4 hours+ in the summer months and we will all have died of skin cancer. Still when your in your coffin with a nice tan you'll be the healthiest looking corpse around!!!!! merry xmas

It's probably RSI but I bet it's not from carrying bundles of mail

There is a condition though called Reynauds where the extremities appear cold and numb because the blood vessels constrict but is more apparent in cold weather.

I've got my coffin sorted out mate. It's light oak with proper dovetail joints, and polished to bring out the graining and natural figuring in the wood. It has solid brass handles and fittings. When I ordered it, the undertaker said "You've made a good choice there mate. A coffin like that will last a lifetime."

I might just get the kids to put me into a big envelope with a non-existant address, then I'll be buried in the mountain at the RLB. It will save a fortune on a plot. On the other hand, they could lean me up against a doorpost in the office and after remaining motionless for several weeks, everyone would think I was one of the screws.
