Doesn't the union have to give a months notice for strike dates? Not sure if the mediation has ended yet anyway. The union will have to announce dates for before Xmas otherwise the action will be ineffective. Not that any of us want to go on strike but I'm not optimistic further talks will get us anywhere.

14 days notice required. mediation ended last friday. both sides allegedly discussing mediators report this week then they have 2 weeks of talks.. if talks fail to agree a deal then 14 days notice to be given for first strike to take place.Celgar wrote:Doesn't the union have to give a months notice for strike dates? That does sort of roughly line up with about November 27th being the first possible date for industrial action then.aiden01 wrote:14 days notice required. mediation ended last friday. both sides allegedly discussing mediators report this week then they have 2 weeks of talks.. if talks fail to agree a deal then 14 days notice to be given for first strike to take place.Celgar wrote:Doesn't the union have to give a months notice for strike dates? Think it will be on some date last week of november unless the talks are going somewhere which i think like yourself is very much doubtful.Celgar wrote:That does sort of roughly line up with about November 27th being the first possible date for industrial action then.aiden01 wrote:14 days notice required. mediation ended last friday. both sides allegedly discussing mediators report this week then they have 2 weeks of talks.. if talks fail to agree a deal then 14 days notice to be given for first strike to take place.Celgar wrote:Doesn't the union have to give a months notice for strike dates? **CWU believe Mediation ends on Friday 18th October (tomorrow)**
Based on the legal contract and the industrial stability section, we enter into a further three week period, which is comprised of one week for both parties to consider the mediators report/recommendations and then two weeks for both parties to consider next steps and final opportunity to reach agreement.
As such, the CWU view is that the process formally ends on the 8th November.
At that point the CWU can serve notice for Industrial Action giving 14 days / 2 weeks notice as per the legal requirement.
Therefore, the earliest the CWU believe any Industrial Action can take place on, is Friday 22nd November, which if Royal Mail are serious about in their communications, would give 5 weeks for intense national talks to take place to avert any Industrial Action being considered.

27th, 28th, 29th (black friday) 30th - 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th
different sections each day, deliveries at a guess Sat(30th) and Mon(2nd) so it is more visible to customers with no post being delivered for 3 days in total.
it will also impact on a general election ( 5th or 12th Dec ) if one gets called, which is looking likely.
just my personal take on it, but a very likely one if IA is called
