Hi, basically for the 4 weeks leading up to xmas I’ve been informed hours with be 2pm-8pm Monday to Saturday with a set day of Tuesday off. Can someone please tell me is it not only 1. against health and safety to be out and about on your own in the pitch black dark posting letters. And 2 just totally unsafe to do in the dark anyway?

Is your DO a LAT hub? I'm guessing that you'll be delivering large parcels/Tracked and if your DO is a LAT hub, then LAT Tracked items as well

All offices do their own at Christmas, no hubs

Doubt you’ll be posting letters - it’ll be a parcels duty. No problem being out there at that sort of time. Amazon are out at 10 at night delivering. It may be s**t but there won’t be any H&S route to go down especially as this is what RM want every working day of the year in the future.

What is your normal shift pattern?

Hi guys I understand parcels are fine to do at that time. But I’ve been told I will be doing about 3-4 SA loops delivering letters and parcels as well. Between 2pm and 8pm

If you have any reasonable reasons that might prevent you from being able to work late/evening shifts(kids, older parents, etc.) speak to your manager. Unless of course late shift is your normal duty

Do u normally have a rotating day off because it seems harsh having the 'quiet day of the week' off every week during Xmas rush. If everyone else has a rotating day off and u havnt it can be seen as discrimination but if whole office is having a set day off during that period looks like u'll be doing more than most in ur office

Then wait for them to say your day off won't be Tues 24/12 but the Thurs or Fri. Stewards

LAT duties are a relatively new thing so are the exception to the rule. I don't agree with it but RM are likely to give you undelivered loops to do as the LATs still haven't built up enough business.
Last Xmas we were told to return to the delivery office once it got dark as we don't have street lighting in our area. Usually gets dark by 1600 then but I think the vast majority of our walks were done by then last year. I have delivered in the dark in the past when we had the bikes and no fun and frankly dangerous. We will not be out in dark this year.
