part timer annual leave entitlement advice please

Post by sardonicus »

Hi

I work on a part time permanent contract, 23.5 hrs per week over 3 days.

I have received my holiday sheet for 2020/21 and am unsure if it is right.

My annual leave sheet says I am entitled to 18 days A/L. OK

My A/L sheet says I currently buy 6 days a/l, which I know I do as I originally was on a different contract, 20hrs over 5 days, and chose to purchase 6 extra days to make it 30 days.

I pay £8.67 pw POAL for the 6 purchased extra days - about £450.00per year

Am I right in assuming the following;

I should receive 4 .5 weeks holiday a year as standard?

which I equate to 13.5 days - 3 x 4.5

I should therefore only be purchasing 4.5 days extra to take me up to the max 18days (6 weeks).

Does any one know if my A/L sheet is incorrect? as I assume?

Am I currently purchasing too much POAL and paying too much?

If I purchase too much POAL does that reduce mu A/L entitlement as it would go over 6 weeks or is the amount I purchase reduced so I don't go over 6 weeks?

Does this mean I have been paying for 1.5 a/l days I can never take?

Have I had too much deducted?

is there a rate per day poal or scale.

If I have paid too much (last 17 months) can I get refunded for being charged too much?

I guess my Bank Holiday entitlement which I assume is 5 is a separate issue and a credit (if its due) can be added to my outstanding A/L by my manager whenand if it comes about?

Thanks in advance for any help, sorry if its been covered about a thousand times before

Hi Thanks for your reply, however I am trying to differentiate what basic a/l leave im entitled to, and therefore how many days extra I should purchase to take up to 6 weeks (18 days)

My sheet says I get 18 days a/l, and that I purchase 6 days, so I would extract from that that I am getting 12 days basic a/l and then buying 6 days.

but the question is should I be getting 13.5 days basic annual leave (4.5 weeks) and so only be paying for 4.5 days POAL to take it up to 18 days?

At moment and for last 17 months ive been on this contract, 3 days 23.5 hrs Ive been charged for 6 days POAL but I think, rightly or wrongly, that I have paid too much as if the calculations are right I should only purchase 4.5 days.

If POAL is worked out on how many days you purchase Im being charged for 6, weekly, when in fact it should only be 4.5 and have been for 17 months.

I cant see any published figures for amount I should pay POAL be it for one day, 4.5 or 6 days - maybe its the same but I do not know, wouldn't make sense to pay 8.67 a week for 4 days or 6 days - poal is purchased for extra days up to 6 weeks after your basic entitlement?

As I said my basic entitlement should be 13.5 (4.5 x 3 days) and then I should be buying 4.5 to make up to 18 (6 weeks)

I believe I am being charged for 6 days when I should be charged for 4.5 days poal if above calculations are correct?

I can only inform you that your annual leave is calculated in hours & the total hours on the sheet should be indicated.
You are correct in assuming your entitlement is 4 weeks 2.5 days.(until 5 years service) So your annual leave equates to 105.75 hrs

You are correct in the fact Bank Holiday entitlement is 5 days.
Number of days worked per week = 3

Calculation Number of days worked per week divided by five (working days in the week) multiplied by eight (number of bank holidays in a normal year) = 1 divided by 5 multiplied by 8

Number of bank holiday entitlement days due (rounded to nearest half day) = 4.8 (rounding to 5 days)

I assume POAL 1.5 weeks (to make up to six weeks - which equates to 35.25 hours purchased). Sorry I do not know how the calculations are made.

23.5 hours X 4.25 then the rest is purchased

Does it say on wage slip 23.5 hours? When did your contract change?

Hi Dindin

thanks for your reply

yes my wageslip says basic pay 23.5hrs

I believe basic a/l entitlement is 4 .5 weeks

As my week is 3 days I assume I should be entitled to 3 x 4.5 = 13.5 days basic a/l

and I should be charged 4.5 days poal to make it up to 18 days

I have been charged a purchase price of 6 days £8.67 p/w for last 17 months.

I don't know if poal price is right for 4.5 days extra but days quoted (6)are wrong or
price is wrong and days quoted are wrong ie I have been charged too much for last 17 months, which is when my contract started for this cover duty/ies

and thanks Rogersh for your help too!

I don't know why your convinced your buying 6 days annual leave as this would cost you around £600.
Your basic pay plus your delivery supplement is just under £300 so to buy a week and half should be around £450
