Hello, my friend is about to start as a postie and it's been a long time since I joined. What happens with regards to the current years holiday? Does he get half the allowance because he's joined halfway through the year?
Also when is he allowed to purchase the full 6 weeks for next year? Do you have to have been with the company for a certain period of time before being allowed to pay for extra?
Thanks

He will get pro rata for this year so starting now will be just under half I think, likely to be about 10 days, maybe a little more.
Can purchase up to 6 weeks for next years leave if he wants, just has to have made it known and applied for it with the DOM before January I think.

What is this 'Purchasing' thing?.....
You are allowed to book more days off, but don't get paid for those days?

Your allowed to purchase extra days leave to take you up to the maximum of 30 days holiday if doing 5 days for example. My entitlement is 23.5 days but i buy another 6.5 days holiday per year which is taken off your wages as a % each week to pay for it. Its around £9 a week before tax on a 30hour contract which seems worth it to me as only about £6 worse off for it. I just always see it as can do an extra hours work here and there and you'll mostly recoup it anyway but the extra days off work are worth it.norris9 wrote:crouchy14 wrote:Hello, my friend is about to start as a postie and it's been a long time since I joined. Correct, it's unpaid leave but they split the cost over the other 50 weeks of the year so you're paid when you actually take the leave. It's actually a good idea.norris9 wrote:crouchy14 wrote:Hello, my friend is about to start as a postie and it's been a long time since I joined.
