2 questions;-work wrote:i brought back mail. they suspended me. 24 hr formal meeting with dom. no rep available. reason stated by myself was undeliverable in time allocated (wed) x 40 pieces. nowt tracked/recorded/timed. decision made on spur of end of shift...5 hours hct round without a break...relentless pda actuals. on decision made returned to d.o. within 10 mins to approach a manager, but no one available! they had gone home? i put mail back in frame for morning and this was discovered/reported by f.t frame prepper in advance of my pt start time. i tried very hard to do the right thing by my duty and my family - i met my son at the orthodontist after work, but, albeit unable to be discussed at the time with a duty manager, i am being conducted for delaying the mail and NOT using pda to phone through appx 3 cutting -off (10 mins prior to arrival at d.o.) I will be taking it on the chin but, question:- can i be sacked for never being trained in cutting-off procedure; considering no manager available within duty time?
1. Why did you not take a break?
2. Surely you should know that you have to let a manager know that you may not be able to complete ? ( The number of posts indicate you are not new to the job ). Even if you are fairly new to it. have youu had any job where you can just say ' had enough for today' and go home ?
Not sure what you mean by ' relentless PDA actuals '
Sorry for not sounding sympathetic but you seem to have brought this upon yourself.

In this job you don't prizes for telling the truth or being honest, they'll use it against you.

That's pretty bad advice. Always tell the truth, it'll come back and bite you if you don't.NWpostie wrote:In this job you don't prizes for telling the truth or being honest, they'll use it against you.

We are one of the few jobs you are expected to follow a whole process just to work the hours you are contracted to
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

You should have joined the Union mate ! We 're here for a reason ! Our Union Rep is well up to speed with "the cut-off procedure" details of which are affixed to our notice board.work wrote:i brought back mail. they suspended me. 24 hr formal meeting with dom. no rep available. reason stated by myself was undeliverable in time allocated (wed) x 40 pieces. nowt tracked/recorded/timed. decision made on spur of end of shift...5 hours hct round without a break...relentless pda actuals. on decision made returned to d.o. within 10 mins to approach a manager, but no one available! they had gone home? i put mail back in frame for morning and this was discovered/reported by f.t frame prepper in advance of my pt start time. i tried very hard to do the right thing by my duty and my family - i met my son at the orthodontist after work, but, albeit unable to be discussed at the time with a duty manager, i am being conducted for delaying the mail and NOT using pda to phone through appx 3 cutting -off (10 mins prior to arrival at d.o.) Having said all this you are allowed to return to the delivery office ( for whatever reason) with, or without mail ! DOMs are under pressure also ( and many are trade union members like ourselves). . . . If it were me and I absolutely knew I had no chance of completing the job I would have informed the manager before I left the office ! If I considered , before I went out, that I had a chance of completing but then found out on the street that there was "no chance" I'd have phoned my manager as soon as reality set in ! ! !

What pension got saved then? The final salary one that closed years ago or the defined benefit one that closed the other year?twoloops wrote:Looks like you have found the office grass? You better hope that if royal mail want rid of people and decide to go down compulsory last in first out route that those "old timers" are willing to fight to save the jobs of new boys. To be fair the attitude towards long serving people on here makes me think long serving people should think stuff em as long as we are alright
