Funeral leave for grandparent

Post by mattandbenny »

Unfortunately i’ve recently lost my grandma. I live in yorkshire but am originally from down south (where all my family live), so the funeral will obviously be down south 250 miles away from work. I just wondered what the situation is with what leave i am entitled to etc, as it may be tricky to get down & back up for it in just 1 day.

1 day? Problem is i’m likely to need 2 days due to the distance.

1 days paid leave is the norm, ask for your day off to be the following day

Lost my grandfather a couple of years ago, in exactly the same position as you 240 miles away. You get one day for the funeral and I hade to take 4 days unpaid leave, unfortunately that is the way it is. You might be able to take annual leave and a day off worth a try. Good luck.

I think a postie in our DO had about three days off recently when his grandmother died. It seems to fall under the same sort of thing as being sick/unwell. Far as I know he still got paid. There were some comments in the office regarding how many grandmother's he had lost so far though.

One day for a granny/granda. Then unpaid special leave, moving your day off, taking spare holidays, or swapping with other staff days off. But it's at the managers discretion who can pay you up to 5 days paid leave it your grandparents brought you up ect. All depends on your .com if their decent or scum.
