Delivery Office Closure Advice

Post by Mezza »

Been told this week that our Delivery Office at Brentford will be closing in June 2021 and the most likely solution is a relocation into the Jubilee Mail Centre at Hounslow., some 4 miles away.

It's still very early days and so there is very little information from the powers that be.
We've been told that it is a result of our building being leased and the current owner wants to take full advantage of the huge amount of local redevelopment and so has put the rent up to an amount RM consider to be unaffordable. RM offered to double our existing rent but the landlord refused. They settled on an extension that takes us till June 2021.

We've also been told that as this is not down to RM and is in fact down to the current landlord we will not be eligible for any form of relocation payment for transport or anything.

Can anyone point me in the direction of any official RM policies or information on office relocation as it may be of use in the coming months.
Any help greatly appreciated.

located within last 2 years, an extra 14 miles return journey away from original office. Payment from RM for a 3 year period to cover extra mileage and fuel. Payment subject to tax and N I deductions, RM only paid shortest route by road using AA route master so if Motorway is quicker and more convenient you could end up only getting travel costs based on using a minor road. You can take payment up front but a mysterious % charge reduced your payment, was told it was HMRC policy but HMRC said nothing to do with them.

As previously mentioned we've been told we won't be eligible for a payment of any sort as this is down to the landlord wanting us out and not RM.

Its like this that we would appreciate a little clarity on - supported by any official documents is poss.

I have no doubt the Union will be involved but like i say early days and very little info at the mo.

If we're being kicked out rather than moving, that complicates things I guess. You may have to just swallow it, or transfer to a nearer office maybe?

Oops apologies I missed the part where you don’t receive a payment. If it’s any comfort some of my colleagues received a one off payment of only £150 as they live so close to the new work location but the inconvenience outways any payment to many. Hope you get the answers that assist. :thumbup

I’ve been trawling the internet and I can’t find anything that says you shouldn’t be paid a relocation grant just because Royal Mail decides not to pay a higher rent. None of the agreements I can find specify a reason not to pay a relocation grant. I would ask your manager to print out a copy of the agreement which states this.

Page 12 of the agreement below gives some information, but it would be better to contact your union rep about this.

We were moved into another office we had 3 year payment which we could take as a lump but Royal Mail take 12% then the rest is taxed, also you get another 2 years payment at a lower rate.
