sick pay running out

Post by TheStrangler »

I know that if you're long term sick your sick pay drops to half after 6 months and zero after a year meaning you then have to claim statutory sick pay...
My question is what is the limit of how much sick pay you can have in a period of time even if they're not continuous, just for example, off a year, back for 6 months, then off for 9 months.
I was told a long time ago that if you had been off for a total of more than 1 year (continuous or otherwise) in any 4 year period you would not get any more sick pay even if you went off for a day or a week, until some of the first period of absence had been over 4 years ago.
My question is not about stages just sick pay itself.
Thanks.

The four year rule is correct. I had had over 1 year off in the previous 4 and my sick pay stopped, but I still got SSP.

Thanks for your reply.
Was SSP paid into your account automatically instead of wages or did you have to apply for it yourself and fill in forms etc?
About £80 a week?

Yeah its a rolling 4 year period. So any Sick leave you had 4 Years ago will drop off as you work week by week. You won't go back to full pay for sick leave, until you are under 6 months sick leave in previous 4 year period. Best to keep your sick down to an average of 6 weeks per year. :thumbup

3 x Sick . No more than 13 days. 1 x Sick. (2weeks). Trigger prompt 1.

1 x Sick No more than 9 days. (For next 6 months). Bingo off Prompt 1.

Repeat process every 12months 6 weeks Sick Every year without Triggering a Prompt 2.

Can't beat 3 months paid leave annual/sick. Just play by the rules they set you. Simples !!!

Best to keep your average to 6 weeks a year ? Bloody hell no wonder the company is in such a state. You're lucky you haven't been found out yet. Playing the system !!!!

I was recently off sick for 14 months with cancer and I received around £40 ish a week for sppr, I was on a 22.5hr contract at the time. I didn’t receive ssp after 12 months as I was told it was included in the company sick pay.
