Postcard from Wimbledon

Post by rathbonepostie »

Anyone else had their postcard from union HQ urging a tes vote?
Notice how it doesbn't say anything about flexibility but just waves money (dishonestly) in people's faces?

"It's your opinion that counts" on the front and "Vote Yes" on the back.
Are we meant to think for ourselves or not ?
Such a strong 'yes' message from both management and union has made my vote a certain 'NO'.

Just read a letter from Wolverhampton District Amal dated November 07, recommending a yes vote, and it says that the £175 is to cover April to September. It was my understanding that this was money owed to us and the fact remains that pay will only be backdated to October. :no no It also talks about change being negotiated. :funneh :funneh If my understanding of the deal is correct then, there will only be consultation not negotiation on most of what we went out for, with the rest being dealt with by work groups?

I voted NO! and so has everyone else I have spoken to in my office. It got to the stage where everyone was waving their bit of paper around with the X in the NO! just to show they didnt support the crap deal.

why is the union going for a yes?

Post by F0zziebear »

I am confused (as someone outside of all of this) how a union that represents it's people is so far away from it's memberships opinions. My only understanding is:

a: People on this forum are not-representative
b: The union are out of touch

If the uion is out of touch a no vote will mean the executive will have to resign

Billy Hayes visited our office in 2001 and spoke to many of the people working there. He told me he didn't think there had ever been a time when the leadership had been so out of touch with the opinion of the membership. He's done a fine job of taking it even futher away than Johnson managed to do. A couple of thousand people posting on here is as representative of the mood as a Mori poll asking a few hundred people what they think of Government policy affecting over sixty million people. The Wimbledon set are definately out of touch with the rank and file.

Surely a union should listen to the needs of it's membership, and not
dictate what they believe is best for them.
in a desperate attempt to secure a seat at the table, they are more active
now in trying to convince us this is a good deal, than at any time during the
dispute, their lack of communication and transparency has led to genuine
mistrust and division.
The people on this forum DO represent a fair proportion of the membership, thus reflecting the strong original majority yes vote for industrial
action.
is the union out of touch? in a way yes and no,yes through not recognising/failing to listen to it's members.
no,because it accepts the need for change and understands the real problems
Royal mail faces,in terms of modernisation and a pension scheme that is simply unsustainable.
as Fozz says a no vote will be a vote of no confidence in the executive/union,
potentially leaving us at the mercy of royal mail management.

I just can not believe how credulous some people are.

1 The problems we face have all been deliberately constructed, they are the result of a corrupt political agenda.

2 The pension scheme is perfectly sustainable and should be improved ,not slashed.

If you can find £24 BILLION pounds of public money to give to shareholders of Northern Rock it should'nt be too hard to pay back the money that was TAKEN from our promised pension fund for 17years [with interest].
Its all just a question of political will. Fatcats and businesses gambling for mega profits get compensated and protected with money we paid in tax when they lose.
RM employees get the money they were promised nicked then get told they have to work harder and accept cuts to make up this shortfall.
Well some folks might be brainless enough to swallow this bull but luckily most see straight through it.

As for your statement about a no vote leaving us at the mercy of RM that my friend could be termed an Hegalian inversion, or more simply stop wiping your elbow
