Surely if Mrs Jones provides proof of her age she can sign for it?

Yes you are indeed correct. They will come through as follows:
AV - Age verification. If the customer looks under 25 then you must confirm their age. The only two forms of identification we can accept are Driving license or Passport

ID Verification. These items can only be signed for by the person who’s name is on the item. Not their son, daughter, mum, dad, partner etc
If the person is not in, even if somebody else is in the property then a p739 must be left. With these items any form of photo ID is acceptable

Then they don’t get the item and it eventually gets returned to sender

And the union has ok'd it for us to be judge, jury and executioner on the doorstep, all within our time of course? Because RM will say it takes no extra time!

It’s to win new contacts. The two new contracts for the ID verification is for new passports (currently delivered by DX) and new mobile phones (currently delivered by private courier)

The AV product is to try and stop knives and dangerous goods going to minors and we need to have this product to be compliant of new government legislation

Thank you for the reply but it doesn't answer my question.

Anything that grows the business is a good thing don’t you think?
You will probably get less that 5 a week so try and not worry about it
The customer will be fully aware of what is required of them as they get informed all the the way by email/text every time the item is scanned. They will get a message saying “you must produce ID to receive this item”

In an ideal world mate that sounds easy doesn't it but we all know that ain't gonna happen. It is going to put more pressure, timewise, on crews who are already struggling to finish in their time. Arguing with customers when you tell them you can't give them the item, waiting for them to find their ID. Not to mention the confrontations we are going to get in when we refuse to hand the item over! Once again the onus is put on us to decide what to do with their parcel. Just like DTN or Safeplace. Then when we get it wrong we're f'd!

To be honest my friend I'm not too concerned about getting in trouble because i do my job correctly. I'm a realist so I see these problems arising. I am just fed up of things being added to our already pushed workload and RM just expect us to absorb it as if it doesn't make any difference when it clearly does. Still no word if the union has approved this?

our union guy was going round the other day explaining the situation to each of us and telling us how to deal with these parcels so I assumed the union were already on board. If it is to win further contracts for the company that's good but its a guarantee for confrontation on doorsteps and some people on my route I definitely don't want confrontation with.
