DOM doing indoor work
Our DOM will regularly come in early and throw off as much IPS/packets as he possible can. He regularly has people in on OT doing the same. Is this permitted? What is the union's stance on this and what, if anything can we do about it as a unit. Our walks have increased in size on top of the current lapsing and I believe this is only achievable because of all this extra work he is doing/having done. When he is off on leave none of this happens and then the unit falls apart and everything fails.

Sounds like a hero to me, holds everything together and as soon as he is off the whole place falls apart and everything fails!!! If only everyone worked this hard there would be no issues would there!!

In my opinion if staff are brought in early on O/T then the manager is pre-emting heavier workload than normal if this is the case how can you then lapse. The other way to look at it is if you are lapsing because of lack of work where are the extra hours coming from to pay the overtime??Ren Hoëk wrote:Our DOM will regularly come in early and throw off as much IPS/packets as he possible can. It's easier for a DOM to maybe remove IPS from heavier walks 318 and arrange some early IPS SAs than it is to rework all the walk routes and have a full resign. If early IPS is seen to fix any problems they will do that. I agree it's a sticking plaster over a gaping wound.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Oh, Don't get me wrong. I understand why they do it but my issue is should they be doing it. They are creating an false image of what is actually happening in offices. All this extra time essentially doesn't exist on paper and when PDA data is looked at coupled with the official indoor work time it will look like A. The walks are achievable when they are not and B. More can be added when in reality it shouldn't be. Case and point when he's not in and arranged all this extra time it all goes tits up.Celgar wrote:It's easier for a DOM to maybe remove IPS from heavier walks 318 and arrange some early IPS SAs than it is to rework all the walk routes and have a full resign. This is why the company is in such a mess, with managers manipulating figures and performing OPG work for so many years to save there own arses that the true reflection of the frontine workload is so completely distorted that no one in higher management has any idea of the reality. To them the picture is being shown as all rosy when we all see it as it really is, a f%$&ing mess.Ren Hoëk wrote:Oh, Don't get me wrong. No they shouldnt. All it shows is that they havent got enough of there own work to do to have time do the OPG/Postmans work. The company should start looking at managers first if they are looking to make savings.SpacePhoenix wrote:Managers shouldn't be doing any OPG/Postmans work at all

All extra work done on overtime or by a manager only adds to the false recordings of PDA actuals.
Most managers paying overtime out and/or performing OPG work are creating capacity that's not there and is basically paying for people to finish early.
That's the stupidity of this company.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
