Disciplinary meeting
I have an imminent meeting with my area manager , I failed to empty a sub office on a Saturday even though I informed both managers in our office 4 days prior that I would not have time to get to the sub in time. I have a 30 year unblemished record & been off sick just twice in that time. I have been suspended for the past 2 weeks which have been hell. Will my good record be considered ? I've been told the manager has little compassion & I'm fearing the worst.

I signed off 30 minutes early & they are saying I would have had time to do it, the issue was I could not get to the sub by 12.30, not that I had time within my duty to do it, they are completely ignoring the fact that I told them I could not get there in time.

Should have cut off to empty the SPDO , then returned to your delivery. Can't see your unblemished record holding much sway. They'll just look at it as another senior man gone and the savings I'm afraid.

You MUST get the Area Rep involved as this is a potential dismissal.
The one you need to do before the meeting is to clarify, for yourself and the rep is when you approached the manager to inform them you did not have enough duty time, what their response was, and as per the agreements where did they record this instruction.
I'll be frank, finishing 30 minutes early doesn't look good at face value, you'll need to have some very good reason as to why you finished early but did not complete the duty, this is why I posted what I have in Paragraph 1.
If the worst happens, or you disagree with the outcome, don't forget that if you are thinking about going to a tribunal you'll need to contact ACAS within 3 months.

What was the reason you couldnt deviate to do the collection? I'd have though you could have left wherever you were at say 12 o clock to go do it and then return to duty.
EDIT - from looking at your other thread you made last month.....it doesnt look good

Your a 30 year man.
Royal Fail wants shut of people now so Rico and his cronies can all make big bucks for themselves by reducing the head count and your seen as `natural wastage` now, if these arsewipes can sack you for anything they will. They are supposed to look at your good record and take it into account but they will put this in your dismissal letter " I have considered Mr/ Mrs xxx previous record and whilst 30 years is a long time he/she was aware of their actions on the day and they have failed to follow a reasonable instruction resulting in a sub post office not being cleared of their collections, therefore I have lost faith and trust in Mr/Mrs xxx and therefore have no other option but to dismiss him/her.
HR has been using this `lost faith and trust` for 12 months now as there was a tribunal win for them in a big case.
But you never know your Area Rep might be blowing off the Area manager and he `might` let you off with a 2 years serious. I hope so.

What your saying is the office will close at 12:30 and they gave you added work ie lapse or pkts to do and you we too far away to make it because of traffic or other reasons unknown I take you did not have any meal relief the answer is yes as to the other factors if you thought you would struggle did you mention it yes should be the answer if you did the job to the best of your ability and you did as you are consistent in your answers. Then why the hell did management f**k up so much was this a set up case or savings or unplanned madness either way you are the scape goat sorry for this but you can but try turn the tables on f****d up management and I wish you well!Jeppol wrote:I signed off 30 minutes early & they are saying I would have had time to do it, the issue was I could not get to the sub by 12.30, not that I had time within my duty to do it, they are completely ignoring the fact that I told them I could not get there in time.

Well sorry to disappoint some of you but I have not been sacked, seems they took a 30 year unblemished record , exemplary sick record etc into account , manager who conducted meeting says I'll get a penalty but will not be dismissed.

Good news, I am glad for you. To be fair most people will be happy they just didn't want to lull you into any form of complacency.

the good thing is they must see you as a valuable employee, i can see why theyd be more forgiving despite RM overall wanting to cut staff costs. With the high turnover on new entrants to the job theyd be silly to sack someone for 1 mistake after 30 good years.
