You would think that due to this unprecedented hot weather the powers that be would have some action plan to swing into operation to make sure we are able to cope in the sun,get the mail down and out earlier,no lapsing/loaning everyone muck in and help get deliveries done if they have finished,and help the others to get done,etc,they have the speel about taking breaks,stay in the shade,drink plenty,don’t make yourself late(whatever that means?) but it’s just talk,everyone wants to get done in this hot weather,it’s no fun,but yes it’s the job we do,am sure they could have a fit for purpose plan to look as though they care and are just a bit sympathetic and care a bit,I’m thinking not much!it may well happen at local levels in well run units?

No plans in place at my office despite heatwave, just lapse as usual .

If anything there's more chance of the mail going to DOs later. When it gets as hot as this, it's not uncommon for the sorting machines to partially shut themselves down where they get too hot. We then have to wait for it to cool down before restarting the machine so the work gets finished later. The alternative is for us to send a hell of a lot more manual to DOs. We can't send the mail out to DOs earlier as it doesn't come into the MCs early enough to do so.

My old Dom used to bring me out a nice cool iced drink in this hot weather, offer to finish my walk for me, and pat my sweaty brow with a nice cool flannel, oh and he said next year he would make sure the vans had air conditioning. Oh I then woke up it was just a dream.

You would think that they would at least supply their workforce with A/C in the vans. It's a joke they think that spending 8 hours in and out a van in 30 degree heat and then getting back into the 50 degree cab after doing loops is actually acceptable for a company to opperate like this.
After doing my delivery, taking all my breaks as hydration stops and then collection until 6pm ( I cant even write my piece without awful grammer ) I feel like utter s**t.

Can I add, I also feel just as s**t in the winter when I'm soaked through. Keep on providing those amazing 'Storm Jackets', they're so fit for purpose, they've evidently gone over budget providing those bad boys!!

Yes and dont forget to deliver in the shade,thats what we were told when its hot! Honestly you couldnt make it up

Our office is still doing absorption despite this hot weather

I asked about tomorrow - when it could reach 39c in London - and was told there’ll still be absorption!!! WTF. All we get told is take plenty of drink and wear sun cream. The only “concession” they’ve made is letting us work through our break to get us out earlier

RM decide to halt delivery in icy conditions due to health and safety, at what point will they consider it too hot? Is it a personal choice? Do we all have the option of saying it's too hot to deliver and due to feeling light headed and suffering from heat exhaustion we cannot continue?
