Can someone help me on this issue please !!!!

I have been off sick for about three weeks. This is a repetition of an injury suffered at work some 3 years ago.

I am constantly having pysio on it.

Anyway, I was due to go away on a short break to Spain last week. I thought I would be up and above board and phoned my manager to advise him that my doctor and pysio said it would be OK, as long as I didn t lift anything heavy.
I had been signed off by the doctor over this period.

My manager phoned me today to say that as i had gone away, my holiday would stand, even though the doctor had signed me off.

I was under the impression that i get these holiday days back. If i dont, fair enough. But I would like clarification on it.

just watch they dont get you for 2 s/a 1 before your a/l and one after,otherwise as long as your doc and your boss have said ok there should be no problem

if u got a sick note for the time u off then you get your holiday thats owed to you. why you tell your manager that you going away i dont know. if you fit to fly and go away to a family holiday then in my view you are fit to work

Blackadder, If you read my post I was just asking for advice. I went away because it was booked and i didn t want to lose the cost.

Your comments are full of contradictions.

You say in one breath that I should not have told my manager then in the other say that you think I was fit to work anyway.

I was asking for advise not an opinion.

Theres no difference to sitting at home here or at home in Spain, with a bad shoulder????

The pysio advised me it would be a good idea, so did my manager.

Maybe some of us want to be treated as we would treat others and not telling my manger and would not sit well with me. I dont give a toss if my holiday is taken I just want to know the right thing to do, not go behind anyones back. Which seems OK in some eyes.

I've always been of the impression that you should, if you are off sick, remain "contactable". We have, in the past, had situations where someone has gone off sick and the Managers have been sent out to that persons house to see if their caravan is still on their drive as, at the time rumours had been abound that they had gone sick in order to go away.
The way Management see it nowdays, and this could be their argument with you is that, if you were well enough to go on holiday then you were well enough to work.

RM don't seem too bothered about what's on a sick note. 'They know best' is the usual case even though this Dr has been to University for god knows how long lol.

Having came across this situation before,it is my understanding that like blackadder say's if you have been certified sick by your G.P. you should indeed receive your annual leave holiday entitlement.Neither are you the first person to be advised by their doctor that venturing past your front door is perfectly acceptable if they think it may be a benefit to your overall well being.while i respect blackadders right to have an opinion,I am never the less curious as to what medical qualifications he has aquired that would make him better qualified than your G.P. as to whether or not you are fit for work.

Been of sick for 6 weeks, got a phone call at 10 this morning from EHS then a registered letter at 1030 from a manager who wants to come to my house on Wednesday to see how i am.

Get someone higher up (the higher the better) and get them to deal with it. Or better still invite him to your house and then introduce him to Mr Baseball Bat

plain and simple this one comrade, a general practitioner will only issue a sick note for any condition if they feel it is warranted because they feel your condition may be worsened by further strenuous activity.
so enjoy your convalesing time your (GP) has given you (in spain) and your annual leave will be given back to you, if not a Individual Grievance should be taken against the manager bloking your intitaled returned leave, however if this condition is as ongoing as you claim then be aware that Royal Mail may consider you for Ill Health Retirement.

Thanks for that. I do believe I will have to give up the job anyway as the injury is pretty bad. But is was one suffered at work 3 years ago, so we shall see.

How do they choose to give uo Ill Health Retirement? I thought after 6 months you went on half pay, kind of forcing you out?
