It’s clear from a number of issues and posts on here to do with cutting off loaning lapsing overtime etc,not everyone is able to challenge management on issues, they want a quiet life, and simply come in work and go home, others have the energy and knowledge and experience to be up for a fight at every level ,and all have the answers to issues at an office that they don’t work from, and it’s beyond a joke as to what goes on and how people are treated from office to office,we need these strong minded people more than ever in this current climate to defend and stand up and look out and challenge mismanagement and bullying etc on those that can’t or scared to make a stand for whatever reason, for those that do look out for us on a daily basis my thanks to you.

EXACTLY mate. But the new part time postie is not being told by his/her workmates what exactly their entitled too and the quality of the union reps has went downhill along with the union also. It's divide and conquer by RM and it's working better now than ever. Full time of part time, yous all NEED to stand together. Everyone knows that RM needs to change and move with the times but management are just taking the c***. Get, if genuine, the B and H complaints fired in and if you see linos/doms picking on a workmate get things organised, which can start with just a word from the rep. It would be very interesting to see how many offices have reps and what the workforce think off them. Are CWU HQ too scared to see how s**t some of the reps are. And yes I say some because most are hard working and good at what they do but like everywhere there are scum. But even though I'm out, I cannot believe how different it can be from one office to another. We all know that most DOs only need 1 manager and a lino (at a push). When their on leave isint strange how the office just runs like a well liked machine. :thumbup

I can only speak on behalf of my own office regarding the rep .He is a selfish bloke that is only in the role to protect himself and influence revisions to suit him and a select few. What’s worse is he has the backing of the area rep who has been told numerous times how the office feel about it .

There's many issues with this. Some people just avoid confrantation, naturally. On the other hand some revel in it and actually go looking for it! I think by far the biggest issue is with part timers though, which I am one. Royal Mail employ people knowing lots will need extra hours, it's usually always mentioned in interviews that they'll be additional hours if you need so many needing full time hours take part time contracts on the basis you'll do more. Naturally that makes people less likely to rock the boat knowing they could lose ot if they upset management. Also, you're on trial for so long which is another reason you're likely to keep your nose clean. I've been here a while, so know the crack and will stand up for myself but it's not easy; particularly if you're new and desperately need a job.

You do know you can get rid of him by having a vote within the office dontcha? Thats what happened in my D.O.

What's the backing of the area rep got to do with anything? It is the backing of the DO that he should have. He may be selfish but it sounds like you lot are spineless. Tell him to his face and have a vote of no confidence, and put up a better candidate.

We also heard recently that they have run out of people wanting to do the DO manager role in our area - very, very few people come to work looking or wanting confrontation, and if they do they don't usually last long. That does go for managers as well.

The rate of change in the industry caught RM out - senior people maybe focused on asset stripping/bonuses (through closures) - and they are struggling with strategies. We're all living with too many bad decisions in the past, plus this internet retail revolution. Not a great time.

It's difficult to get decent reps when those decent reps are removed by management targeting their work practices to catch them out. That does still go on far too much too. Favourites do the same rule breaking and get away with it. If they wish there are so many rules that can lead to a disciplinary, and these build up on proactive reps. If you are a self-centred rep staying cool with management and looking after number one then you are no problem to them, but not much use to your work force.

to get to the point you are all lost in a fkd up system where the union use the threat of losing your job if you don't pay your cons for back up they don't need to do anything else to extract the money from you this bullying culture which has been going on for years and will keep going can be stopped easy if they wanted to but if everything was going hunky dory you would not pay its because of this threat that they got you buy the bollocks the thought of anyone losing there job for refusing to work over there time should never be there and if you took them to a tribunral for that you would win hands down you don't need the union to do that for you fear is what they rely on grow a pair stop paying for fk all :cuppa
