Anyone else find that when you scan a normal 3d barcode for a standard parcel and a tracked which can be left in a safe place the PDA locks you out of being able to leave in a safe place. You then have to scan the standard parcel again, remove it from the list, and scan again as delivered once you've completed the tracked.
I swear the programming was written by idiots. Why we cant just have an option to leave standard parcels in a safe place without the requirement for a photo is beyond me, if multiple scanning just add the photo element if required for the tracked parcels.

Probably to cover your ass and RM's ass if it goes missing, with a photo there's proof of it being delivered and where it was left

I’ve never understood why it’s ok to leave tracked in a safe place but not standard parcels  like the OP says, you have to scan them separately. They could just add the photo option to 2D parcels as well, problem solved.

As far as I was aware, unless you require a signature, you can leave the item in a safe place unless it states not to on the PDA.
It seems very counter intuitive for the company to require our lowest cost services to be bought back to the DO if customers and their neighbors are not in. I just presumed this was a flaw in the PDA programming as I cant imagine RM would endorse such a waste of funds on low cost products.
Surely it wastes valuable time and money for all parties involved and is a pain in the arse for customers having to pick up parcels from the DO.
Maybe instead of spending time whipping posties, they should spend a little time addressing some of these issues. They'll soon find we can deliver a few more calls in our delivery time, save office space and free up PHG time to give a better customer experience when collecting parcels from the DO.

The safeplace is an option that the company you are ordering from will give you as an alternative to p739. They basically say are you prepared to take responsibility for your parcel if it goes missing after our posties have left it in your safeplace and took a photo.
Generally normal parcels people send with a normal 2d barcode, will not have an option to leave in designated safeplace.
Only leave tracked with a specific place written in the safeplace box on the label. Some have safeplace written on them but no instructions. You must p739 these.
RM labeling is crap most of the time. Specials with just a plain white label, I even had a special with a specific safeplace written on it, go figure.
There really needs to be some standard regards labels.

Well, you learn a new thing every day. TBH, after a lengthy service on my round, I'll find it difficult to suddenly change tack and not leave parcels for people. I know everyone by name, and where all their safe places are etc. Considering RM seem to go out of their way to make delivering parcels difficult, Its not surprising they're wanting to seperate parcel deliveries. But, surely providing customers with a first time delivery along with their mail and the way they wish to have their parcels delivered is the best scenario for all. It's not rocket science, you just provide people with what they want.
My customers live a 30 minute drive from the office which has little to no parking on a busy high street. The thought of p739ing all those packets would probably loose RM a considerable amount of parcels in my area. If other companies are willing to doorstep parcels and people are happy, I cant see why we cant provide a safe place service for each address providing we have a written acknowledgement from the customer.
I've often thought we should have a live database running along side on our PDA, when scanning your round in, which then pulls up everything from general hazards, dogs etc to safe place locations which you can edit along the way. If most barcoded items have the address within the barcode, it should be able to pull up customer preferences for that address if nothing else.
We could do with delivering our service in to the 21st century rather than making the job difficult and annoying for everyone involved. P739s are a necessity but should be a last resort when failing to provide a 1st time delivery. Would save the company a crapload of money.

my mistake, I was referring to the square codes on packets. They're still 2d but more like a QR code
