poll cards...same old arguments

happened again today. we've got about 40 thousand in the office to deliver over 3 days. local elections for crime commissioner for Northumbria police area. anyways when we got back I told manager i was booking half an hour over, to which he (DOM) replied cant pay you overtime cos you are getting 3p per card. I told him we only took out 110 cos we didn't have them all in today. also I said I don't want the 3p per card if that's the case as half an hour overtime is more than the card payment. he relented, but there were people who handed back today as they weren't prepared to go over if they weren't getting paid overtime, so......he got the loops handed back covered.....on OVERTIME!!! how fekking mad is that.

For gods sake why do these stupid managers do this all the time? It’s like hitting your head against a brick wall. You can not book overtime if the reason you have gone over is due to delivering the poll cards HOWEVER if you always book extended delivery OR even with the normal mail volumes you would book then you CAN book extended. Why don’t they understand that?

Not to mention that I cannot remember the last time the amount we get per poll card etc. item increased, while our standard hourly rate has certainly increased over the last ten years (from ~£9 to ~£12 per hour?). It's now practically impossible for most duties to deliver enough poll cards per hour to at least equal the standard overtime rate.

You did the right thing, I always just say I'm not claiming for the cards so I'm booking the overtime.

a lot of this confrontation is brought on the management themselves though. they gave us 3 days. but the voting does not start till 18th July. a whole month away!! if they had gave us a week they could've been done with the D2Ds. some of the cards are stating the postal votes will be sent out by the 3rd July so there's even more to come. it seems like they WANT arguments.

Find a political reason for not delivering it you need a good one but since chuka umunna can change parties quicker than his underpants I am sure you can do it or not do it as the case maybe!

And get moved off your duty so someone else can do them.

They'd go through to DOs as manual anyway as they can be fed manually on a CSS on the 1st pass but on the 2nd pass the machine will reject most of them

I'm not talking about how they turn up at your frame, I'm talking about payment, counting them, and the forced overtime.

There should be no payment for them, other than your normal hourly wage. Overtime if needed, cutting off if you don't want the extra work.
