flexible working

Post by charlatans »

i applied for flexible working requiring that i dont have to work the Sunday overtime i work every 5 weeks. Today at a meeting with my manager about this he thinks it would be possible for me to only do half of these sundays. Are there any implications i should be aware of if i accept this half measure? should i seek any written assurances for the future? Should i not accept anything but the initially requested working pattern? e.g no sunday overtime.

I'm confused, if it's overtime just turn it down. If it's SA then give 4 weeks notice to end it as required.
You shouldn't have to apply for flexible working to not do overtime.

Thanksfor replying. I work a five week rota that includes a 10h 30 mins sunday. I am trying to get rid of that. It is not classed as s.a. in payment . I am an engineer in a m.c .
Any experts on flexible working agreements on here?

What local agreement do you have? Nobody can be forced to work overtime so you should have a way out of this relatively easily.
I'd be very surprised if overtime was part of your contract and if it is, it's most likely unenforceable.

Thanks. I have the same vague contract as you i believe with the paragraph on overtime mentioned frequently on these boards. Our rota is by collective agreement i think. So i have collectively agreed to do overtime. The problem comes when nobody wants to do it.

If your claiming the 24 your shift allowance of around £360 per month then yes you have to work the Rota (unless you are in more than 5 years) where you can still work PEC hours (mon,_fri) then standbye allowance for the nights your waiting on standby in the house. The payments for this are crap, compared to what they were under post office engineering. Nobody seems to have a work life balance anymore. I think they get you to work weekends just to lose people off, especially the ones you they want rid off. Allied bakeries are looking for engineers up and down the country and paying better money. Also four days on, four days off rota. There's no much difference in the machines they have a motor, control panels, pressure switches ect. One sorts parcels the other sorts lies and they are pretty much all automated now with just the engineers and a couple of production management on site, just like all the MCs will be like in a few years. :thumbup good luck anyway mate.

I had not thought about the shift allowance payments as the sunday dayshift is not part of the 24hr rota. The 24hr rota ends on saturday evening and starts up again on sunday night. With the sunday dayshift being an overtime shift. Something to think about though. Cheers
