Long term sick

I went sick today and it is looking likely that I may be off a while with my Ankle and knee. I am on foot delivery and have been struggling for a while. My manager has already sent out feeders for me to do some work in a mail centre 10 mile away, while my foot and knee improves. Although I am likely to be off for a bit [possible tendon plus definite cartilage trouble], it is my first day off. Can he do this straight away? Seems like he is jumping the gun to me

Def get a fit note from your doctor, it SHOULD stop your Dom from piutting you on a duty that's unsuitable for your condition.
DONT TAKE A DOMS WORD ON ANY ASPECT OF THE JOB,
That goes double for the sickness absence procedure.

If you need to take the time off DONT be cajoled back to work (before you've fully recovered) with promises of light duties that can become heavier and heavier until you face the prospect of having to go sick again.

Your GP has first dibs so you have to go with what they say first. I would imagine they will do an official sick note for you straight away and sign you off for XX number of days. You have to be fit to work before you can go back. Better to have one long period of off sick than two separate periods of sickness.

get you fit note from the doctor he has a medical degree to say weather u are fit for your work or not. Your DIM does not have a medical degree although I sometimes think that they should have the way they talk to you. I have been off sick for the last 10 weeks awaiting back surgery all you have to do is follow the attendance procedure and you will be fine

I thought I read on this board a while back that an employer can override a fit note, which seems a bit pointless in getting one if that's the case.

Override is a strong word.
A Dom can NOT just decide that they will follow a report from ATOS/OHA over that of your doctor.
There were headlines in personnel trade papers to the effect that the screws could override your Drs note but that was an oversimplification.
If there is a disagreement tween Doc and OHA, they talk to each other and it goes on from there
Dom only gets to make you think he can decide who's opinion he acts on.
Docs notes, pissing on management's chips since the year dot.
