Get a duty

Only been in the job 6 months, and I know seniority counts for everything, just wondering how long it has taken other people to get there own duty . I presume it will be a good few years.

It all depends on the turnover of staff at your office.

At our place there are four part timers who started around February/March 2018 who got their own duties in October 2018 because there were loads of part timers above them who had been made up to full time but not previously replaced. Or there could be a duty that no one else wants!

We've got staff of 15 years standing who are still reserves and would like a regular duty.

i have been here 10yrs and i haven't got a duty yet, finally got a set pattern as a relief 2 months or so ago

Just under 4 years in my case. (I've been in the job for just over 5 years now). The key is to apply for a crappy duty, that no one wants! At least that way you'll get a proper rota for days off etc and know what you are doing from day to day rather than getting punted about everyday...

Im in the job seven years and I am still a reserve. Not even close to getting a duty never mind full time. Ive found (from working in other offices) that it depends on how good ur office is. My office the guys are good on mostly all get on so we rarely have anyone leave....other offices it is a horrible environment and people leave all the time meaning more likely newer staff get a duty.

Currently wrestling with this myself, there is a duty up in our office but it is the worst duty in the office, not helped by the fact the van share colleague isn't the easiest person to work with, don't know if I should apply or stay as a reserve and wait for something else to come up which will happen as another round of vacancies will come up after this as expired

you`ll have to evaluate the likelihood of yourself getting anything better with how much seniority you have. If you want set days off and know what youre doing week to week and have low seniority then id probably sign for the duty if its in a decent area, if the area is horrible too id pass.

I’ve just been applying for whatever comes up, I’ve been lucky and been left on a round on my own as the other has been getting lapsed, I could of had this duty as a hybrid as no one went for it. But I think it’s going to be advertised anytime as a normal duty , it’s a difficult walk on your own but I like it, not a lot of the others like it on stand alone , but I think both duties will most likely go up so I definitely won’t get a chance but you can but try

The area is probably the worst in our office also but beggars cant be choosers I suppose

Got made to full time after 5 years and got my own after 10 years.
