We had an-ex manager turned rep at the mail centre where I worked years before. Truthfully, he was great. He knew the code of conduct and regulations inside and out. If he was defending you in a case, you were so much safer.

Then he - sigh - left the business.

Yeh tend to agree with you on that! Should know the agreements inside out- the pros and the cons!
He will know the internal devious dealings that RM operate, a true poacher turned gamekeeper scenario and could work in the members favour if he is truly committed to representing CWU members. May have an axe to grind and well prepared to stick it up RM. the CWU is in dire need of people prepared to rock the boat a little, for too long the pendulum has swung too far in RMs direction. That's if he is not using it as stepping stone or another agenda ??
