Pensions Decoupled & the mystery of TUC letter.

Post by strangler »

Spoke to a union rep today and asked him about the 'leaked' letter from TUC chief Brendan Barber which states that you cannot vote for the pay deal and reject the pension deal, it`s all or nothing.
He told me that this letter was written before the final agreement and that it was only after the agreement that the two were seperated. So, he said you will get a vote on the pension changes.
I then put it to him that I suspect the changes are already a done deal, why would they be able to give you figures on your personal circumstances if it`s all hypothetical and not decided yet. He said the pension illustrations you can request are only estimates based onif that particular arrangement is accepted.
I also put it to him that surely we will all lose money on pensions as the union and RM have agreed that the current scheme has to change. He said the consultation exercise will involve everyone, the union (from the top down) are well aware of our concerns. He said maybe another possible solution would be a sliding scale where those that had less than a certain number of years to do would stay in final salary, others go to new scheme. There also remained a possibility that an option in a ballot would be to increase contributions.
Anyone got any opinions on the above particularly the decoupling thing.

I think the 'sliding scale' possibility gives a clear indication of what we are in for. Divide and conquer, "look we are giving you choices, yes they are all bad, but you do get to choose.

1 we leave some of you alone but the rest of you get your arms ripped off

2 some of you get you fingernails pulled out and the rest get amputated at the elbow

3 all of you get your hands chopped off.

Please indicate your preference ,but remember it is the offer in this current climate, your union has backed this consultation and we have allowed you the choice.

Also remember change is not optional, you must be shafted

Dont mention consultation to me - our office was "consulted" over the later start and not one person wanted later starts; what happened? the rest is history as they say.

Leave the pensions alone and make up any shortfall caused by the management /government over 17 years.
