Doing everyone else's d2d's

I mentioned on here recently that it's not worth trying to finish early as we end up doing numerous walk's d2d's. Someone answered this shouldn't be happening as the following day's households are part of the following day's workload. I mentioned this to a manager but got fobbed off ("I can't have everyone standing around doing nothing"). Anyone know the facts about this?

In my opinion, the D2Ds are only planned into the next day's workload, it's not sacrosanct that they can only be done on that day.

Also asking you to work that you are trained to do, within normal paid hours, would be classed as a reasonable request. So whilst it's annoying and demotivating, technically the manager hasn't gone against any agreements.

They can ask you to do any task to fulfil your hours. Door to doors are resourced to be the next days workload, but they can accelerate that resourcing if people are finishing early.

It is a reasonable request. Refusal would be a conduct issue.

The DOM is within their rights to give you enough work to fill all your duty time. It's likely though that if you arrive on time and not before and take all your breaks that there will be very little if any time left to prep additional D2Ds on other frames.

I can''t see a problem with it. I'd rather be sat down listening to the radio and enjoying a bit of banter with my colleagues instead of pounding the streets and climbing stairs ! ! ! If you are back at the office early on a regular basis it is likely you are either running or your duty is too small. Don't come girning on here when the boss tells you you have double (or treble) lapsing to do !

It's a reasonable request. A manager asking an OPG to do OPG work during his or her paid hours is not unreasonable.

I agree with this. In our office the majority of part timers have stopped coming in early and we have all agreed that nobody will finish before 2pm. On heavy days we are occasionally over our time as we are working to the hours we are meant to, if we came in early we would finish on time or earlier meaning management wouldnt see it as a heavy day.
