Absorption on rehab
I am on rehab from a bad back and wondering if I should be doing absorption. I'm struggling on half a walk and the absorption is a 20min walk from my round. I don't want to make a fuss but should I be doing that on rehab? Also, part of my rehab plan was to try and get physio from ohs via my manager which hasnt happened. If I fail the rehab he has told me I need to go back off sick. Would that put me on stage 2? I dont want to go sick and am happy to move offices to work in callers or rle which I have experience in

Where is your rep in all this?

What is your rehab plan?
I take it that it is taking part of a duty and increasing the amount on a weekly basis?
You are struggling to do half a duty after how many weeks rehab?
You can tell your boss that you're struggling and they should decrease your workload.
A rehab plan is NOT set in stone, they try to get you back to a full walk in four weeks but it can be extended.
Yes you would be on a stage two if you go back on the sick but the failure of the rehab plan would be your managers fault if they haven't listened to you and made adjustments.
Tell them that you're willing to work anywhere and don't be fobbed off.
Ask your boss what has happened to the physio.
Make a fuss, it's your health. Your boss couldn't hack it as a postie that's why they became management.
GET YOUR REP ON TO THIS ASAP.

Absorption on rehab
Thank you. Rehab has been about 6 weeks but three of those have been working in rle so I only went back onto a half a walk last week, and now three quarters. the union rep also works in rle and has pretty much bullied me out so I dont feel I can talk to him. I am doing the union reps round so I am sure it would make more sense for me to be indoors and him outside. Though I think my manager wants me off rehab asap and the union rep is s**t stirring and making up stuff to make me look bad.he even threatened to get a manager in his side who he knows I have a grievance out on. I have already said I am happy to move offices but the manager said if I can't complete I will have to go sick and get another stage. I am sure if I get a light duties note from the docs the manager will say go off sick

Your manager is being unreasonable as there is no reason why you can’t switch jobs with the rep. Phone the bullying helpline if you feel bullied and also keep a diary of events noting down what he or she said and witnesses.

I just rang the manager to say that working yesterday really aggravated my back neck and elbow to the point I cant even straighten my arm. I asked if there was any chance I can swap with the rep in the callers office and he said he cant move him as its already his duty this week. He also said that with my level of experience in there I will struggle and I still 'have to work' in there. He said I have two options.... to come and do the walk or to go off sick

He's attempting to bully you, go to your area rep and get him on the case.wendyharding wrote:I just rang the manager to say that working yesterday really aggravated my back neck and elbow to the point I cant even straighten my arm. “Already his duty for this week” So how come some people get moved about at short notice and others don’t. He’s not even signed to that duty!

Ok so apparently he is signed to 'variable duties' or something which is the first I have heard and I am only a postie. The area rep is coming down tomorrow but I can't help but feel like a grass. The area rep did tell me today that they cant just move him around so I feel a bit hopeless but will see what happens

Make sure you get to talk to the area rep and before the rep does if possible. What I have read here seems to be a manager keeping a rep sweet with the added bonus of cornering you with Hobson's choice of going sick. I can see that the lack of training and experience would keep the rep in the rle over you. Area rep might be able to pull another placement elsewhere out of the bag for you. Also ask Area Rep if the boss can extend your rehab further, 6 weeks tends to be the outer most that they will stretch to .

Thanks guys. So last week I was struggling on three quarters and so they pulled me back to half a walk. Today I found out I am doing a full walk minus a road and from tomorrow onwards the full walk. This is clearly not reasonable. Or is it? Can they do this or are they trying to push me off sick?

Sounds like a screws' ruse, get on to your area rep. It's hardly reasonable to take you from a half a walk to nearly a full walk.

I would get in touch with the area rep but I found out from another postie today that apparently I am sending too many 'silly messages' to him and that he thinks all the union rep / area rep / management are trying to push me out. Don't really know where I stand or who to turn to now. Is this the kind of thing that happens in RM? I just tryto stick up for myself more than most
