I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

WTLL Managers brief : Thinking about our future
Looks like the timing of this WTL today is a way of preparing us for tomorrow's announcement.
As a relatively recent RM starter (2017) I can see that change is definitely needed or we will continue to lose ground to other courier services. How this can be achieved while ,at the same time, delivering the right level of service as well as protecting our income/working conditions is another matter.

I sense that the wording of it is suggesting the results tomorrow to be bad, therefore we need to change how things are done.
It's almost guiding a discussion to give the conclusion the business wants but making it feel like it's coming from staff.
Or am I just cynical?

No I think you're right, the way it's worded definitely makes me think that they know whatever they announce tomorrow isn't going to be popular and they're trying to soften the blow.lala wrote:I sense that the wording of it is suggesting the results tomorrow to be bad, therefore we need to change how things are done.

Reads to me as though they want the staff to take responsibility for their own fate in the company, and not rely on the union message which could potentially lead them astray.

I think they want us to do anything to save the company and our jobs. Possibly paint the CWU as the bad guys who aren't 'flexible' enough.

WTLL Managers brief : Thinking about our future
Bad decisions were made by management several years ago, the 2 in a van was a bad idea, we told them at the time but they didn't listen.
Don't get dragged in with other couriers, we are NOT like other couriers, we deliver letters, d2d and parcels, they DON'T!!! Whizzing around in a van all day delivering parcels is not same as delivering LETTERS, D2D's
and parcels and working in two's.
Only a 35hr week, 5 days or 4 day week will save the company. Give EVR's to the ones that want it and drop Saturdays.

Reads to me like they don't know what to do to get us out of this mess so they are asking us! Finally!

I think it means we should prepare for:
1) Everyone drives, or at least has a license and is willing to
2) Everyone works 5 days out of seven with deliveries every single day, except bank holidays
3) Everyone starts later
4) Two 'shifts' for deliveries. 7.30 am-2.30 pm and 1.30 pm-8.30 pm
5) 35 hour week. But goodbye to paid breaks
6) Parcels with '1hr delivery slots' as part of normal workload
7) An end to special allowances, the delivery allowance, etc.
And kiss goodbye to any notion of handsome EVR packages.

We had to sit through a how to lift safely video which, quite frankly, made Songs of Praise look like cutting edge stuff.robbertwhitton wrote:Superb! You couldn’t make this stuff up!!!wacko74 wrote:All we got told in our WTL this morning was look out for dogs and don't wear our own trainers!
