Hi,
I recently joined RM about three weeks ago on a 28 hour contract, 08:00-15:00 Wednesday to saturday. I have been working those days fine until today my manager said it doesn't work like that and I will be working different days. I'm not too happy about this as I have signed a contract for those days. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks

I assume you may not have received a copy of your contract yet. There is a clause which states;
Hours of work/overtime
Your weekly hours of attendance will be (x) hours per week (including meal breaks)
Your hours of work will be allocated to you by your manager. However, these hours may change from time to time after giving you reasonable notice...
I am no authority but unless you have commitments, as a carer for example, which may come under the RM family friendly policy, I am not sure of your position.

Thanks for the reply. Does this mean I am still guaranteed my 28 hours every week but it could just be on different days?rogersh wrote:I assume you may not have received a copy of your contract yet. There is a clause which states;

Can your contracted hours be cut?Gareve wrote:Thanks for the reply Does this mean I am still guaranteed my 28 hours every week but it could just be on different days?rogersh wrote:I assume you may not have received a copy of your contract yet. There is a clause which states;

To quote google "The short answer is only if your contract of employment allows it. Your employer can only lay you off or require you to go on reduced hours if your contract of employment allows it. If not, your employer will have to negotiate a change to your contract."

Read your contract this is a legal document you and your employer should have signed it this is the starting point for a dispute with your employer but first and foremost is resolution before legal action one course is your CWU rep another is with the manager above the manager who you have had dealings with good luck.Gareve wrote:Thanks for the reply.
