Been given notice after 11weeks

Just been given a weeks notice after 11 weeks, due to not finishing full rounds.
I have never been late, never had a minute off sick, have carried on despite pain due to body adjusting to new job. Worked with toothache for a week and continued my walk when i found out my friend had just passed away. Not had a minute off. Have worked over my time on occasion and not been paid for it and not been paid petrol money when sent to other offices. Today I was given a weeks notice because I'm not performing! I've had only 4 'weekly' reviews that ive signed for. Spent one week in 'training' and the odd day after that. Often out on my own on an unfamiliar route. Can never get out of the yard on time due to van being blocked in or walk not sorted. Losing the battle here, seems so unfair. Never had a positive bit of encouragement. Others bring stuff back, but I've been told my performance isn't good enough. Dont suppose i have a leg to stand on?

Have you spoken to your Union rep?
Have management offered further training to "improve performance".
Were they aware that you are late getting out due to walk not being prepped for you coming in?

Seems unbelievably unfair! I have never know this to happen for "under performing". They would surely just re-assign you a workplace coach? I would challenge this 100%. When you say you aren't finishing full rounds, are you bringing mail back or working over to get it done?

This is the way forward and standards treatment for all new starts!
Current colleagues are not immune to criticism on this matter, they often set unachievable standards for new starts to live up to. EG starting early! New starts are getting a raw deal with un prepped workloads and still expected to complete which is unfair.
It is now @ young fit persons job, no allowances made for older less fit people who are left to sink or swim with no support.
Colleagues as well managers condone the treatment of people with lesser athletic ability.
People forget, to many others in the world out with Royal Mail, it’s only a job! putting printed paper through a letter box!
It’s not a competition, the posties themselves have made it what it truly is, conned into rushin* about to appease managers to fill their pockets with bonuses of the back of bullying and intimidation, especially new part timers.
Hang your heads in shame, both managers and posties, grrrrrr!

firstly returning mail to the office that you take out is a no-no , your colleagues or DOM should have informed you of this, mail taken out on delivery should not be returned unless circumstances prevent this [ ie no entry to a secured tenement , ect.] or the "wilful delay "of mail can be used against you ,the DOM should be informed if you cannot complete the duty in full and if good enough reason, should take alternative measures.also understandably you will take longer out on delivery routes first time,the colleague that you are out with should at least point you in the right direction and give a few tips regarding each "loop".
getting up to "speed" can also take a few weeks in this job.sorry for the personal problems that have happened .maybe the postal job is not for you.

Your opinion may hold some water if referring* a to long in the tooth experienced posties.
Any postie far less a new start cannot accurately judge how long a duty delivery takes, compounded by being late out due to frame being unprepared. Where is the WPC to advise on such matters of wilful delay in cases of obvious non completion!
It takes a while to get up to speed as you say, but has the new start been given a fair opportunity to adapt to various duties.
She says that there is often prep work to do! That takes a while on a strange frame, even for experienced staff.
Being moved from duty to duty? Takes up a lot of time not knowing the area! A good partner could help if shared van, but not all posties are keen to assist and have a habit of “ complaining” to the DOM if their finish time is effected, dobbers!?
Training ? Often non existent, thrown out the door with a google map marked with @ highlight pen!
So many questions need answered, sacked basically after 11 weeks a tad harsh imo.
Sounds like a conspired excuse to sack someone for not fulfilling the DOMS inflated expectations, that which has now become the “standard intimidated postie “ and has now become the norm in delivery, in these modern times.

Shamefull! But shouldn’t expect anything else in this culture of fear within this firm,I doubt this will find its way into the courier,you couldn’t make it up,can they really get away with this treatment?

This will be my last post on this forum as i can't believe the crap that is written about old posties and how bad managers are
when i started twenty years ago you had to be smartly dressed ,on time and you were told if you didn't do a good job you know where the door is ,you had checks when you came back and if you had one letter in a bag you got sent out to deliver it (i see letters and packets brought back daily)half the posties look like tramps and as for the state of most vans its a joke
its a job you have a start time and a finish time if you don't like it find something else.
