Manager going off home before everyone gets back.

Hi guys just wondering about a duty of care thing. I regularly these days go over my time due to volume of packets, yet when I get back the RLE man (who is also our rep I would like to point out) and the DOM without fail go home at about 14:20-14:25 and they let all others back with their feet up for an hour doing nothing but drinking coffee when they should be out helping others, go home at this time too. Surely someone would stick around as we are lone workers and may have an accident or God forbid get attacked or something. Also though how long should they stay though? as I work with 2 great blokes in my little DO but who happen to be so slow (compared with everyone else), like the other day I finished at 15:20 'ish and I spoke to one of the slow ones in question the next day and he told me he didn't get back to the office 'till 17:30 :o

Can you expect a manager to stick around till gone 6? That's when we all finish if you include LATS and collections. Awkward I guess.

If the majority are finishing an hour early, once higher up look at the PDA actuals, they're probably going to take hours out of your office

As long as my manager is home by 10 on a Saturday I don't care what time I finish

Not sure anymore but because substantive managers where salaried they didnt get overtime payments if they had to stay late. Obviously they werent keen to hang about past there time and we were given a managers number at the nearest mail centre in case we had a problem. If its still the case put yourself in their shoes would you hang about for mayve 3 hours in your own time waiting for a couple of people to get back? Fair enough if they can book the overtime id be happy to sit about waiting for a few hours, if not? No chance

Well no I wouldn't want to stay if not getting overtime, but we have never even been given a number for nearest mail centre which I think would technically be Medway although there is an office that does CSS and stuff 20 minutes away. One of my colleagues a while ago ha a fall and was told she should have reported within an hour, "...to who?" she asked as no one was around, shocking!!

I remember when we used to have a dedicated afternoons manager for collections etc. Same way that night turn had a manager there...at night.

If OPG's are expected to work throughout the afternoon and into the evening then there should be a dedicated manager role to cover those hours.

If some posties are currently finishing at 1730 what time are they going to be finished at when the walks are increased, the whole operation is moved an hour forward, and we have nearly 40 more minutes of SWW introduced ??? Either there is something seriously wrong with how their walks are constructed and/or the problem lies with lack of organization or fitness.

Years and years ago we used to have a problem in our DO with the two people in charge of the office going home before everyone had got back from delivery. There was an issue with the DOM going home early and on a Saturday once everyone had left to go on delivery there was a tendency for them to go home then so really early. I think at that time DOMs may have not been paid to work on Saturdays or maybe just for a few hours. I think now it is different in terms of pay. We have had problems involving RFID chips in our office and know we are being monitored/targeted in terms of postboxes being emptied. We do the job properly and all the boxes are emptied but once something happens beyond your control there is always suspicion from those above us.
