Dog Attacks

Post by cyrus_16 »

Ive been bitten 3 times by dogs over the years, last week I got attacked by a weimaraner. I thought I was lucky that it only ripped my trousers, went to check my phone an hour later and noticed the bastard had bitten a hole in my phone. I was then told by my manager that they will not compensate me and I have to ask the customer for money. Is he telling the truth? He's been known to deceive and lie about things to suit him.

If he is telling the truth then I might pursue him on something else. I have a doctors line for my feet and have to use my own footwear. I have been told that royal mail should be compensating me for that. Is there anything I can get in writing to show him so he does not fob me off?

your phone is your own personal property and is not required by RM to bring to work. If it was an essential item for the job then RM would be liable too. As it is your manager is correct, you have a private dispute between yourself and the customer, they are responsible for actions of their dog.
Has your manager taken any action against the customer regarding the dog ? I wouldnt be delivering there until its dealt with, its an obvious and serious hazard.
As for footwear, yes you can claim for it with a drs note. Do you have a union rep in your office ? Id go there as 1st step, if not approach manager directly about it.
