There is no such thing as "normal".
Terraced houses, high rise flats, long driveways - all will give completely different numbers of delivery points.
The total is irrelevant.

I don’t think there is a normal amount. If it’s a 4 hour 15 min Duty it would be 4 hours and 15 mins worth of houses. It really depends on whether all the doors are next to each other or up long drives.

We've got several van shares with more houses than this on. We've also got a HCT delivery with nearly 1100 houses on. Terraced streets. We've got van shares with as little as 800 delivery points that are amongst the biggest duties, in terms of delivery span, because the properties are mostly gated with long driveways.

Plus don't forget the lapsing, we have lapsing where the round is right next to their round whilst others have to drive an 8 mile round trip to do lapsing.
Just work your 4 hours 15 mins and bring back whats left.
The only NORMAL is 4 hours 15 mins with a 40 mins break in the middle, if you cut off the early starting no break runners are sent back out with your cut off

What's the smallest amount you've seen? There is walk with less than 200 delivery points in our office. It's a rural and the guy who does it drives more than 50 miles every day. Most senior guy in our office, no surprise.

Will rural duties even exist in years to come? I wouln't be surprised if perpetually there'll be collection points in the nearest village or maybe in one village covering a number of villages

Very much doubt this will ever happen. The nearest we will get to this is 'local collect' which we already have but most people would rather have parcels etc delivered to their home address.

Probably. I wasn't having a go to be fair, seniority has many faults but we all sign up knowing the crack.
