OFFCOM re allowing discussion of USO to be brought forward by a year, beginning of the end of RM???

The (further) watering down of the USO would be the coup de grace.

Do stop scaremongering, While there is a need for letters and parcels to be sent there will be a rm in some force, Do you really think anyone else is going to want to set up to send letters to all areas of the uk by the next day when it costs them more to do than they get paid for?, Thats what the uso is for.

Its crazy we deliver so many packets from China and the postage is free half the time, how the hell we make money from them i do not know. USO is good for our job security. DSA is what the top dogs should be fighting against let us compete for those contracts.

We don't make money from them Chinese pkts.

In fact I believe they're actually subsidised and they get to send them for well below cost because China is classed as a ''developing'' country.

I agree DSA is a farce, it basically allows companies to set up as middle men between the sender and ourselves, but we have to charge these companies below market value as they're classed as a postal operator, they then cream off the difference between what they've charged the sender and what we're charging them!

Not sure anyone is scaremongering just relaying back to us what OfCom have said. Sure no-one else will want to set up a service that covers anywhere at the same price but at the same time in today’s world is there a need for every house to have the possibility of a letter dropping on there doormat every day. As we all know it’s a very costly service to continue with and no business shoulders the costs of offering a loss making service without being able to offset those costs elsewhere. As I understand it RM say that the money in the parcels market isn’t enough to offset the USO costs. Whether that’s right you and I don’t know and unfortunately those decisions are down to the likes of RM,OfCom & the government.All I know by looking at recent history of all three of those I wouldn’t trust any of them to come up with a proper and honest decision - so all we can do is wait and see.

Was not impressed when the latest letter from the Zurich RM Pension Scheme team had printed franking from 'PostageSmart' but delivered by RM.......
