PDA actuals

Are managers actually looking at them and adding more work to the rounds getting back early?
In my office the runners have been finishing 1hr+ before their time for over a year and nothing has been added.

Finishing 1hr ? We av people with easy walks doing apart of another walk and still back before their time yet still book overtime for it. Surely this ain't rite.

One possibility is that higher up are adding up the total time all the staff finish early by and will then take that amount of hours out of the office

What is it with all you grassess. And what's it got to do with you what other staff are working. Is it just jealousy on your part. Maybe they have been in the job for years, done all the crap walks and worked their way to a nice walk. That's the way it is. FFS it's bad enough with managers trying to screw you but when fellow workers do it that's bad news. They don't need PDAs when so called workmates can watch them for gaffers.

I think as a general rule DOMs are only using the PDA data to check on 'recipient' queries when they claim they haven't received an item or haven't received it on time. I know for a fact though that the managers of our DOMs or higher managers and people like finance directors are monitoring PDA actuals. They are also skewing this PDA data to show an inaccurate picture of what is happening with a view to cutting hours. This happened in our DO recently but we were in the right and they were defeated and had to crawl back and apologise in person!!
The best defence to this happening is to keep the PDA with you while on delivery and keep it on the move. I realise it's a b****** when you trying to maybe carry letters and a parcel as well. Ask your DOM to get in the two types of PDA holsters and see if you can get along using one of those. Alternatively have the PDA in one of the pouch pockets or maybe in a trouser side pocket if they are not already used.
It's not like being Postman Pat or the postie on EastEnders is it.

Leave choice order has been rotated where I have worked for at least 20 years( two offices). Suggest your office reviews its practice. I always thought this was Rm policy for many years.

No Wright88 You're talking rubbish! Everyone has started at the bottom with the crap walks and s**t holiday choices. They have done their time. The walks will never be equal as there are too many variables to consider. You say you've been there 20 years sounds more like 20 minutes? Seniority is the fairest way to allocate walks. It means those that have destroyed their backs and their knees delivering ten tonnes of crap over the decades, can just about manage to carry on without dropping down dead. Why should some pissant fresh in from the world drop in on a decent walk? They are the fit and healthy ones, let them earn their stripes like everyone else had too! The poster you disagree with talks far more sense than you. The "boo hoo I'm so hard done by brigade" like you are just helping management put the squeeze on. Stop talking s**t there's a good chap!

Seniority allows you to pick a walk, but not to reduce your workload in comparison with others. The less time you spend outdoors the more time you should spend indoors up to your departure time. Maybe then you will work to your time, that is all the union, some managers (although they like favourites to do the ghosting) and many fellow workers want.

I haven’t grassed anyone up and don’t intend to. I’m just wondering if anyone else knew whether the PDA actuals are being used to measure walks and add more work to duties consistently finishing early. If they are then I will warn colleagues about it because many are finishing early by cutting corners/running/skipping breaks etc, and they might just think twice about what they’re doing. I don’t think it would be fair to add more work to those duties anyway, it should be measured by someone doing the job by the book.

It's not grassing ( if that what you want to call it) it's getting what's fair ! Been in job 29 years but why should people be finished their own walk plus half a walk ( on ot) still be back same time as me. The walk they are on as lost 300 delivery points and only been given a few to make their delivery up. We would all love our walks made smaller so we could fo overtime in ur own time.
Also managers telling new starters to come in 20 mins earlier so they get ahead start. ( oh and do it for free)

PDA actuals cannot be used to target individuals. For example if Postie's A, B, & C all do walk one but postie B does the walk 45 minutes faster nothing is going to happen. They will look for patterns and collective savings but they will also blatantly lie about the figures. We as posties really needed the AHDC to back us up but that is probably not going to be deployed now. Any DO that feels they may be under threat really needs to start doing the job properly. At the very least stop coming in early and take all your break times.

Point is, there shouldn't be 'nice' walks and 'crap' walks !!
