SWW Questions
Hi can anyone answer a couple of questions regarding the Shorter Working Week
My office is STILL in disagreement with regard to the implementation of the first hour off the working week, which should have started in October 2018 if i remember rightly.
This is mainly down to our Area Rep telling us back at the start of all this that our management wanted the time to come off the start of the day and in his opinion it should come off the end of the day. Our staff agreed with the rep and decided to go to disagreement.
We've recently been told that the hour will be taken off from October of this year (2019) and if need be, added to this years hour coming off.
As far as i'm aware we are the last office in our area to reach any sort of agreement now.
Therefore, i'd like to know:
1/ We've been told there will be no back pay. So we just have to swallow working an extra hour a week for nothing for a year compared to most in RM now ?
2/ How does this affect our annual leave which is now done in hours ?

Realistically there's no way in hell that it'll be taken from the end, it'll always be taken from the start, for one thing it'll allow for later dispatch times from the MC

Of course we're being paid for 39 hours. But we should be getting the same pay for working an hour less like everyone else who has started their ssw.Postie45 wrote:what back pay ? if youre working 39 hours still, then you should still be paid 39 hours.Mezza wrote: 1/ We've been told there will be no back pay. Or am i reading something wrong into this. Offices that have implemented the ssw are not now being paid an hour less for working an hour less.

youre being paid the extra hour pro rata, youre essentially working an hours overtime each week.

Whilst we will be working 39 hrs pwk till October and accruing holiday based on that. from October if we then implement the ssw of possibly 37 hrs pwk by then, then surely our annual leave will need to be adjusted ( be it ever so slightly) for the remainder of the holiday year?

imo i think your area rep may have dropped a bollock as the time came off the start time and it said that in the agreement as royal mail where suppose to decrease the indoor work to lose the time but we all know that wouldn't happen but that's there problem , your a/l should still be worked out on the 39hrs a week you work , and like someone said on here your doing an hours o/t a week so you are being paid for it , why not just agree and start later as you still have the same finish time and then its your dims problem to get the work done

Obviously not.ted_e_bear wrote:So my question is when they take another hour off in October are they going to remove an hours work this time ?
The move to a SWW was always to go hand in hand with improved efficiency.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It will be very interesting to find out any more implementation of SWW can be justified given that there is no decrease in the time it takes to complete the job.
