Any T1 Diabetics here?

Post by Llyrrr »

Hi all,

I'm starting as a Postie in a few days and just wanted to know if there are any other Type 1 Diabetics on the forums. If so, was just wondering on how they manage everyday work life and if they find the physical demands of the job having any sort of negative or positive effects on their condition?

Cheers all!

My advice is this
Always eat breakfast
Always have your glucometer with you
Carry something with you in case of hypo
If you’re doing van share then tell your colleague what to watch out for in case of hypo. Especially if you become aggressive when having a hypo!
Tell your managers, they don’t understand but if you tell them, you’re looking out for yourself.
Get your feet checked regularly by a podiatrist.

The good thing is, that being a phydical job, it does help balance things out, other than that you should be fine.

T1 Diabetic here, been with RM 3 months.

All of the above is good advice; personally have found I've had to lower my fast acting insulin quite substantially to avoid hypos. I also nibble on some snacks / check bloods every few bags to make sure all is well.
