I've no problem with the bit about bullying & intimidation -to quote Senior Mgt -There is a desire to break the union like never before + We've had the miners & Longridge , certainly a lot of hostillity and relentless union bashing & propaganda even now . Mc Carthy wanted a "sweetheart union "/glorified staff association in 03 . Plenty of dodgy fit ups for reps & activists afterwards .

Positive Spin on things if nothing else , pity there wasn't this quality of communication when Biscuit Barrel Billy & Ward were marching their troops up the hill.

we should start a sweepstake on the result. Maybe a poll. What do you think the result will be?

Different options like

90/10 yes, 80/20 yes, 70/30 yes/ 60/40 yes....... and vice versa for NO options. At the moment although it will be better to judge in week or so i'd say a 55/45 YES on a poor return..... thats just a gut feeling

Maybe YOU have nothing to fear - but many small DOs have little or no representation whatsoever. Each time there's a little heat on your doorstep you are probably winging it round to Wimbledon in a taxi.

Our full time union official is more conspicuous by his absence than his presence. He is the sort of guy I wouldn't buy a new car from let alone a second hand one.

The rhetoric used by your branch is merely parroting HQ - this is NOT a good deal by any stretch of the imagination and regardless of what you, your branch and HQ say, the CWU will be sidelined for many members - but hey as long as you're alright Jack - pick.

It's strange that the 1/3 of Branches recommending a no vote were happy to come out of the woodwork and announce their decision and yet those recommending yes appear to have kept it fairly quiet? Of course don’t read into the 2/3 of branches that have not made their views known that theirs is a yes vote some branches will not want to be known for going against CWU HQ and will do their work quietly. So we will Just have to wait and see, although I guess we will get an idea on the vote because HQ will know how the vote is going before the closing date I’m sure we will pick up from those with links to HQ through the tone of their contribution to this site if it’s a yes or NO.

According to the Socialist Worker my branch is not going to make a recommendation they are leaving up to the individuals.

Mines a No - reasons are mainly local as I don't think our local union officials/members are strong enough to deal direct with our management. There is also a massive issue of trust with local management, and this offer does not address this issue, actually it seems to brush it under the carpet.

I've seen what I think will happen with the NUR /RMT , the previous machinery of negioation was 1 LDC -Local Departmental Committee 2 Sectional Council 3 Paid RMT Regional Organizer 4 Area /Region 5 Executive . BR wanted the "steam age " machinery removed , hence the six week strike over that & fragmentation in 89 , fragmentation or sectorisation will be the next dodgy card up on RM's sleeve which makes it harder to organise ;but easier to play people up against each other which suits RM just fine . The RMT Area Organiser was only used in emergency e.g. if a guard had been caught fiddling and the Railway had cocked the charge up .PO equivalent would be a Branch Sec with a large area .

With the RMT ,the machinery changed to Staff Rep and some could be useless /corrupt , Profit Centre Rep for a large area and the paid organiser shouldering most of the burden . Things tended to be imposed , reps were either victimized as they tend to be a scalp and a half , or promoted as RM have done in the past to neutralize them .

People could get very isolated , anything badly handled could get out of hand and there's the danger of feistier people taking things into their own hands .

I think a customer got criticized in one of the threads for supposedly commenting on things he didn't know much about , he had a involvement , but he had a long membership of the RMT which means Privatization /Macho Slash & Burn Management and I'm sure he can see the way the winds blowing and read RM's Board /Senior & Area Mgt like a open book . There is a vague or broad similarity .The Moderators quite rightly intervened .

I'd vote NO on the basis of the devil you know or the deep blue sea . I've seen more people keep their jobs that stayed in the RMT than the ones who didn't though I can understand people's mistrust of reps/ officials shortcomings very easily.Leighton knew all this when he took over hence two years of trying to play people up against the CWU.

I'm not a fan of someone who has a Lenin Bust on his desk or tankies/trots full stop but Crowe disaffilating from the Lie-bour Party was a good move and what Bob wants he gets .
