Our unit have local elections due in may and the literature is due throughout April, all party postings will come addressed and we have 3 days to deliver each party, we have been told no overtime will be payed on any of these 3 day periods, regardless of mail volumes or if you deliver all material in 1 day. Thoughts anyone?

Problem is we have no union Rep and no one wants to be black balled for cutting off, as far as I was aware if the mail volume warranted overtime you could claim regardless of election material

The worry is the election window is 4 weeks and with 8 candidates if the postings are staggered we could end up with a month of no overtime

Unless they're something that can't go through a machine, it's possible that they could be run on a machine and be in with your sequenced mail

yes , but it doesn't matter if they go through the machine or not these things still need delivering , the dim has told them that no excess will be paid for delivering these regardless , now that's not right .

The payment is 5.6 pence per item, but the no overtime clause gives them carte blanche to roll out as much mail as possible during this period knowing we can't claim ivertime

Poll cards can't go through a CSS anyway, a CSS will read them ok on a 1st pass but would then reject most of them on the second pass

See attached agreement point 3.

States:
The impact of delivering this letter traffic will be excluded from normal workload calculations.

Therefore you can get overtime payments for your day mail if required.

In practice we would prep the daily workload and if required agree an extended payment. We then prep the election material into the frame.

There is no agreement to work beyond your time to deliver election material.
