Duty revoked due to admin error?

Post by Smir »

a friend that applied for a job at work, got the one he wanted, now I personally think a few people moaned who also applied, maybe? and a week later he has been told its been revoked due to an admin error...?

can they do this? I guess they can? he said the Union guy who called him didn't really seem to care?

just wondering what if anyone else has experienced this?

Depends on the reason

If for instance the admin error was due to someones start date being incorrectly inputted on the system and they actually had more seniority
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

think it was 2 weeks away from being on the duty he's on now for a year, it doesn't include a hour increase either, just feel sorry for the guy, so so happy  which is rare to see anyone at work that happy..

And there's the reason.cant apply for a change of duty unless you've been on your current duty for a year.
Obviously there are exceptions, but that's the bottom line.

Does this only apply if you have signed for the duty as opposed to just covering it indefinitely?

Generally speaking, career progression. So an increase in contract hours or upward movement within the business. E.G. moving from light van collections to mgv which is an increase in hourly pay rate. In this case you can drop hours but still move duties within the 12 month period.
Career progression in d.o's is a bit more difficult since phg's are no longer a thing.
Hope this helps.

So, if for instance I signed for a duty and 6-7 months down the line didn't like it anymore, I would be blocked from signing for another one that became vacant. (This is all hypothetical).

I'm guessing this is to reduce the likelihood of people that have worked several years with the company never getting a duty?

Yes, that's correct. Allows others to apply for duties, otherwise the senior man in an office could change duties at will whenever one was advertised.

That last sentence bothers me so I went looking for the agreement regarding advertised duties.
So here it is. In the way forward agreement "way of working section" 14.9

Employees who are regarded as suitable should be dedicated to these duties for a minimum of 12 months. If after 12 months the employee wishes to change jobs, they must give adequate notice to enable a suitable trained replacement to be found before release can be allowed. The replacement must be available to take up post no later than six months after notice has been given.

Is that the relevant part?

Employees taking up internally-advertised posts will be dedicated to
them for a minimum of12 months. No applications for job moves will
be considered during that period, unless they are:
 For specialist posts;
 As a result of serious personal or domestic reasons, following
discussions with local CWU representatives.

This appears to be it. Short and simple
