Retiring on ill health

Has anyone any advice I am thinking of taking retirement through I'll health. I am female have been with RM since 2001 I will be 63 in June .

it is extremely difficult to get ill health retirement, (obtaining same pension entitlement as usual retirement age) You have to submit evidence from a Consultant, NHS or Private) that you cannot work. Unless you have a terminal illness or other serious illness its pretty much impossible. You can of course volunteer to retire early

Its not *that* difficult IF you have genuine reasons verified by dr and then occupational health. It doesnt have to be a "serious" illness, it just has to be enough of an illness or injury that prevents you doing the job fully. They may offer alternative positions depending on your illness, however these are few and far between in reality.
Have you seen a dr yet ? Thats the first step

you cannot get IHR with pension now as this has changed. You should get 34 weeks pay plus PILON (pay in lieu of notice which depending on your service is 9 to 12 weeks additional pay.
It is based on your basic week only though.
You can ask for voluntary IHR to try and speed the process up and OH Assist if the management do this, will help with the process.
Dont accept anything less than the the above amount.

If OH assess that your condition will stop you working in any other employment you would be offered IHR with benefits .This has taken over from IHR with pension.

I've been offered voluntary ill health because of osteoarthritis in my hips and the financial benefits are the same as forced ill health retirement but does anyone have any idea of the implications of this once you've left the business. I've spoken to my local citizens advice bureau who told me you won't get Jobseeker's Allowance as you've voluntarily put yourself out of work this is important because even if you can't find suitable work they will pay your national insurance stamp, also I have a small amount left on my student loan does anyone know how this is affected if at all. Any thoughts or advice welcomed
